Bibliography

[edit]

Bill has a growing library of books he has written and co-authored. I have started this section with his Dungeons & Dragons novel, "The Mark of Nerath.". Xin Jing (talk) 17:11, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hannity Controversy

[edit]

I tried to include the following entry:

  • Bill Slaviscek has been in an ongoing feud with radio talk show host, Sean Hannity since January 2010. Hannity, an avid gamer, joined the Dungeons and Dragons editions debate when he attacked 4th edition as "less of a role playing game, and more of a video game." He went on to say "I'm sorry but if you play 4E you are basically playing World of Warcraft. And it’s stripped down, everbody's equally powerful approach is just another example of the ‘wimpimication’ of America." Bill Slavicsek, as one of the lead designers of Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition, challenged Hannity's assertions and called him a classic powergamer, saying "I think Sean Hannity wants to game in a world where those who have the time and resources to construct munchkin builds dominate the game, leaving everyone else on the sidelines to eat the crumbs." Slavicsek then challenged Hannity to a "game-off" at the next Gen Con. Hannity responded by labeling Slavicsek a socialist: “He’s a socialist plain and simple. Everyone knows his campaigns are all set in nanny-state Dystopias. He builds settings that would have made Stalin smile. ” [1], [2]

I believe I am linking to the correct broadcast. And this is a well known incident in the gaming community. Don't understand why it keeps getting deleted. MisterRPGnow (talk) 21:11, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's a hoax. Your sources don't support your assertions at all. Nice try, but I think you need to move on. -- Atama 22:33, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention (speaking from the position that 4E is closer to a Tales game than a P&PRPG) the mention of Hannity's comment, if indeed a hoax, is a blatant WP:BLP violation. —Jeremy v^_^v Components:V S M 01:59, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You'd get along pretty well with my gaming buddies, they're of the same opinion as you. :) -- Atama 17:00, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Correct age?

[edit]

The page says he was born in 1971 and, after going to college and working for a year at a newspaper, he began editing the Star Wars RPG for West End Games in 1987--when he was 16? There must be a mistake. His birth year can't be 1971, can it? 64.211.58.60 (talk) 13:37, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And I just noticed his LinkedIn says he started college in 1979--when he was eight?! [1]https://www.linkedin.com/in/billslavicsek/ 64.211.58.60 (talk) 14:10, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could be that we need more reliable sources. 8.37.179.254 (talk) 21:52, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm not sure if radaris.com is an acceptable source for wikipedia, but they've got his year of birth as 1961, which would make a lot more sense. 2001:48F8:B00E:1058:31EC:60C2:CCA9:36C5 (talk) 21:43, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It does make more sense, but we need to make sure that is a reliable source before using it. 8.37.179.254 (talk) 22:12, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
