Edit explanation[edit]

I deleted the link to a webpage discussing pollutant inventories as off topic, but forgot to include an explanation for the edit. Ecphora (talk) 13:02, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move (withdrawn)[edit]

Billon (Alloy)Billon — No need for disambiguation; recently created as a fork by someone who wanted to put a fork of Billion at Billon. (A partial history merge would be required.) — Arthur Rubin (talk) 15:48, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose — Several of the interwiki links are disambiguated a la "billon (alloy)", a clue that "billon" is ambiguous. Billon is a surname, and "billon" is easily confused with "billón". I have expanded the disambiguation page. --Una Smith (talk) 19:02, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. I think we need a history split/merge, anyway. Everything before the CFORK should be reattached here, the CFORK of Billion should be deleted, and everything from the disambiguation page on should be there. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 19:09, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree. The article and talk pages need history repair. I would also move this article to Billon (alloy). --Una Smith (talk) 19:47, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Withdraw if the history of Billon before the fork is reattached to Billon (Alloy). The rename to Billon (alloy) doesn't require discussion, and could just be done. I didn't want to do it while this move is in progress. (I think I know how to reattach the history, but I'd like some evidence of consensus to do so.) — Arthur Rubin (talk) 19:57, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vellon[edit]

This was apparently also called "Vellon", which I have redirected here. Drutt (talk) 18:46, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mercury is not a precious metal[edit]

This article makes the following factually-challenged claim,

'...Billon is an alloy of a precious metal (most commonly silver, but also mercury)...' .

The problem being; mercury is not a precious metal, nor can I find any reference to any billon having mercury as a major constituent.

After silver, gold is the common precious metal constituent of some billon. Replaing the word 'mercury' in this context with 'gold' would be appropriate.

Date Discrepancy[edit]

The article states that "The use of billon coins dates from ancient Greece and continued through the Middle Ages.". The article on the Swiss Franc, however, states that "Between 1798 and 1803, billon [linked to this article] coins were issued in denominations of 1 centimes, ½ batzen, and 1 batzen." Either they have significantly redefined the end of the "Middle Ages" or there is a discrepancy. Which article is correct? 159.53.110.143 (talk) 18:44, 16 January 2015 (UTC) User:Kevin.159.53[reply]
