friction vs ...[edit]

...divided into two types. Friction knots are held in place by the friction between the windings of line. Knotted-ends knots are held in place by the two ends of the line being knotted together. Doesn't knotting the line-ends together also work by friction of the line on itself? I can't tell what the article means by the distinction, nor whether the distinction is widely acknowledged.
