Copy-edit notice

[edit]

The "for" text in the original copy-edit tag said:

improper capitalization of species common names, other than where a name occurs or the first word of the begins a sentence or bullet list item; 2) don't number lists for no reason; 3) add scientific names for each species; 4) fix incomplete common names like "cupreous blue" (cuprious blue what?!); 5) remove redundant links (only link scientific name if common name is a redlink and in such cases it's better to move the sci. name to the common name anyway, except for plants.

Some of this is simply wrong.

  • It's arguable as to whether capitalizing English names in lists is wrong, especially when some of the groups normally have their English names capitalized (see below).
  • As far as I can tell there is always a scientific name for each species.
  • Cupreous Blue is the correct common name of a butterfly; "Blue" is a noun in butterfly names, which are normally capitalized (as per examples at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lepidoptera and WP:Insects#Names and titles).

  • improper capitalization of species common names – made consistent but not decapitalized.
  • don't number lists for no reason –  Done
  • add scientific names for each species – they were already there.
  • fix incomplete common names like "cupreous blue" – they are correct.
  • remove redundant links –  Done, always linked to the scientific name for consistency.

Marine species

[edit]

Is marine biodiversity within the scope of this article? If so, where does one draw the line. Does the "Cape Town" extend beyond the high-water mark? Beyond the low-water mark? · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 19:15, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictions

[edit]

The content of section Endemism states that there is a list of endemic plants but the list that follows contains animals (which may be endemic). This cannot be fixed until it is clear what is intended. Sourcing is also unclear. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 03:33, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cape Town undefined

[edit]

The geographical extent of Cape Town is undefined for this article, making it impossible to identify the correct scope of the contents. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 03:47, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. The referencing is not good either; basically the same website at different dates. It's not clear how it was accessed, nor what its sources are. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:11, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Additional species

What is this section intended to list? There is at least one duplicate, Erica verticillataGreenman (talk) 20:22, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
