And the answer is ...

[edit]

A rather obvious omission from this page is the findings from the project. It was set up to test a rather well-defined problem about ecosystem fragmentation, has produced a load of publications, but the article contains nothing about its results. I suppose I could dig around myself, but I'm sure someone here knows the "answer" already. Most likely it's heavily qualified, but it'd be nice to have a single sentence that starts "Generally speaking, ecosystem fragmentation causes ...". Additions

[edit]

As part of a class project, my group member and I are suggesting changes be made to this article. I am submitting two sections, one about the biogeography of the study area and one concerning the future of this and other fragmentation projects.

The section about the study area will cover how the experiment was established, the general climate conditions of the area, and the types of species found in the area. These factors will be tied into how fragmentation effects the area and will lead into a discussion of the results of the experiment. There will be an extensive description of the theories and concepts that led to the project's hypotheses and development. Due to the extensive and diverse nature of the experiments preformed on the BDFFP site, methods and results from the project will be discussed through descriptions of various experiments. These examples will include experiments that focus on edge effects, plant-animal interactions, fauna communities and populations, affects on species diversity and richness, soil chemistry, biogeographic history and tropical forest plants. Each example will include a brief description of the methods used and the results found, with an explanation of how the fragmentation effects were involved in the findings. There will also be a description of research and findings that carry implications for conservation and management practices in forest fragments.

Other members' submissions will include background information of the project.
