Is the text of the BWC available at Wikisource? If it is this page should link there and if it isnt it would be much appreciated if someone would add it. freestylefrappe 23:57, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

What is an "insrument"?

Not to be a smartass, but what is an insrument? I don't know if it's just a word I don't know, or if it's a typo. I googled it trying to find "insrument" but didn't come up with anything that made sense...."The BWC has 165 States Parties. The Republic of China (Taiwan) had deposited an insrument of ratification before the changeover of the United Nations seat to the People's Republic of China." Can someone please clarify or fix if it's not correct?192.33.240.95 (talk) 19:07, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a typo (now fixed) - should be "instrument of ratification." In this case, and "instrument" is a legal instrument, that is, a document whose deposit has the legal effect of bringing the treaty into force. NPguy (talk) 20:24, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Updating the BTWC and relevant pages

Hello,

I am a postgraduate student working for a disarmament research centre in the UK. My project is on biological weapons prohibition and how it can be comprehensively achieved.

As part of the project I am looking to significantly update the BTWC page and its relevant pages (such as VEREX, CBMs,). This will include an historical overview of the BTWC progression as well as analysis of on-going issues.

If anyone else is considering updating this page please get in touch with me. Regards, Richard Elliott,

Bradford Disarmament Research Centre

Source for the following

There seems to be no source for the following content and seems to be made from sensasionalist bullshit.

Even though the U.S. has signed this treaty, they are still making and stockpiling tons of man made and altered viruses to become extremely deadly. The United States also made an altered smallpox virus and were it ever leaked out, there could be worldwide death.

Thanks.

I doubt it would be 'tons'. Russia and the US currently have stockpiles of smallpox - it is an acknowledged fact - but nobody desperate for them to get rid of them, since samples are needed to develop vaccines (and consequently their retention is legal under the non-hostile use clause) Kransky 09:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

"Censored by media"

"written by Alison Walker-Baird and censored from the major news medias"

Okay, I may not have much regard for news outlets at all, but there is no evidence provided for this statement. If there was 'censorship' poster needs to either cite evidence. Epthorn 18:44, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

The argument does not belong here; this article is concerned with the Treaty itself, not biological weapons. Kransky 01:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

BWC drafted by the British?

Really? I can't find any evidence for this. The citation in the entry links to a BBC article written by a TV producer who at no point states or claims that the UK drafted the Convention.

Yeah, I don't see it on the link either. The link mentions that the British could have been the first people to use biowarfare, but it doesn't say they submitted the first draft for the convention. I'm not going to delete the statement about the draft because I don't know much about this topic, but could someone find a good link for it?
