Article lacks WP:A to establish WP:N[edit]

Wikipedia articles must be based on reliable sources to establish Wikipedia:Notability (people), and the author has not provided any ... without them, this is just original research, which is prohibited by official policy ... the author has removed the {{prod}} tag placed by another editor without offering any real improvements to the article, so I have restored it ... read WP:3RR and do not remove the tag again. —68.239.79.97 (talk · contribs) 01:06, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the books he writes are helpful but the only biographies of him are on the back of the books he publishes. So would he constitute as a notable person? Chinese3126 00:51, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not according to Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Primary criterion for Notability of people ... scroll down from there to "Creative professionals: scientists, academics, economists, professors, authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, engineers, and other creative professionals." ... there is no mention of "back of the books" ... if you can't even find any WP:RS published articles about him, or published reviews of any of those books, then he's certainly not notable by Wikipedia standards.
As for the books themselves, see Wikipedia:Notability (books)#Threshold standards ... books by living people should never be mentioned without an ISBN (unless published before 1966), because Wikipedia has built-in resources for finding books in libraries world-wide, e.g.:

Hondon B. Hargrove (1985). Buffalo Soldiers in Italy: Black Americans in World War II. McFarland & Company. ISBN 0-89950-116-8.

Just click that ISBN and you'll go to the locater page ... this book is used as a WP:RS citation in several Wikipedia articles, but neither it nor the author are notable enough for articles of their own ... and you might want to bookmark {{cite book}} for future reference in creating articles about published authors ... also look at Wikipedia:ISBN to see how they are recognized and handled automagically without having to use templates. —68.239.79.97 02:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not the author, and so I removed the tag, as the criteria justifying the tag are not correct.

    • That references need upgrading is not reason for deletion, however they material does need sourcing. If not provided, the tag will be replaced.

However:

  • Books should be cited in full, especially when they have generic titles
  • According to both WP:PROF and consistent practice at AfD, scholars are notable on the basis of the publications--either
    • there must be a significantly larger number of research publications than the average historian; their publication by major scholarly publishers determines the notability. As a first approach, use Google Scholar. Reviews are very helpful but not essential.
    • or there must be textbooks that are significantly used in other schools. The use of the publication, demonstrates notability. Reviews are very helpful but not essential. To determine use of the publication search using the isbn in google, limited to the .edu domain.
  • Official web sites are acceptable RS for biographical details & he probably has such a site; Blurbs for the book either on the book or at Amazon, do not demonstrate notability. They can serve as supplementary sources.
    • So get this upgraded properly. Please contact me for any assistance required. DGG 20:14, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
