Question[edit]

The Birmingham Mint [...] was established in 1794 [...] using second-hand coin presses bought from the estate of Matthew Boulton.

Err, is this right? To me "bought from the estate of Matthew Boulton" means they were bought after Boulton died, but he lived until 1809 according to Wikipedia's article on him. If it's meant that the presses were bought from Boulton himself then the opening sentence needs to be clarified. -- Arwel (talk) 20:27, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The date of 1794 is wrong. The minting of coins dates from 1850. There are a number of inaccurate statements on various websites including one which states that Matthew Boulton created the Birmingham Mint. I will update the article from A Numismatic History of the Birmingham Mint, James O. Sweeny, The Birmingham Mint Ltd, 1981, ISBN 0-9507594-0-6. Oosoom Talk to me 14:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
