Bishop of Bangor or of Gwynedd?

[edit]

Hello! As the Bishop of Bangor was promoted above all others under the Aberffraw dynasty from Gruffydd ap Cynan onwards... would not these bishops be more properly Bishops of Gwynedd?Drachenfyre (talk) 19:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date query

[edit]

Concise Dictionary of National Biography gives the date of translation of John Randolph as 1807. The date here is inconsistent with the list of bishops of Oxford. Charles Matthews (talk) 21:27, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It possibly depends which date you use, election or enthronement. The date here is in December 1806, so that seems possible. The definitive reference would probably be the Clergy of the Church of England database, since the Welsh dioceses were an interal part of the CofE at this time. The London Gazette should also tell you when the Conge d'elire was issued, election must follow within 7 days. David Underdown (talk) 09:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
