Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is a significant and well-known women's rights activist from Africa. Even for a region that has a paucity of online and other references, the number of references for her work should offer some context; I believe reading through the references would support this. The African Women's Development Fund is the first Africa-wide grantmaking organisation for women's rights (and yes, I'm looking for citations that will confirm this). Removing this article would be a disservice to Africa related content, as well as for content related to notable women, both internationally and from Africa. I'd very much appreciate more time to work on expanding the article, and any suggestions for confirming notability. Anasuyas (talk) 09:43, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ireneshih did you actually take the time to read the article and check the references before you decided that it was not even WORTH a discussion over notability ? Anthere (talk) 10:32, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Anthere, do not be so harsh with Ireneshih please :) Wikipedia:Notability (people) says: "A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has received significant coverage in multiple published[3] secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other,[4] and independent of the subject." i am not so much expert in these topics, so bear with me if i ask you to elaborate a little bit how the sources support notability according this basic criteria? i read others, like asset declaration though. --ThurnerRupert (talk) 03:42, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am not an expert of that topic and think Anasuya would be best to answer. However, I DO BELIEVE that speedy deletion should be reserved for cases of obvious crap, spam and jokes. No discussion can take place when an article is speedy deleted. Pretty obviously, the current article is not spam or crap or joke so it deserves at a minimum a bit of consideration before being trashed. Don't you think ? My point is not the current article. My point is more a procedural one. Anthere (talk)
Hi Rupert, I've updated the format of the references to reflect the fact that at least three of them are from national or regional newspapers in Nigeria, besides at least one of the other references being from an internationally well known organisation like Ashoka. Even a cursory look at these references would have established at least some measure of notability based on the definition, beyond Anthere's point that procedurally this should not have been marked for speedy deletion. In any case, we've clearly gone beyond the immediacy of the issue now, and I'm looking forward to being able to expand this article and others like it. As I've said before, what concerns me most is that this form of engagement with new articles is one of the reasons it is difficult to get content related to Africa, Asia or Latin America onto our pages, when closing these gaps representing 80% of the world's people should be a priority for improving the quality of enWP. Btw, the source you cite above is for Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi's husband, not for her; she's notable enough on her own. :-) Anasuyas (talk) 20:39, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
