THE FIGURES BELOW ARE PERCENTAGES (%) VS ACTUAL (TOTAL) NUMBERS. BLACKTOWN HAS THE LARGEST (TOTAL) INDIGENOUS PUPULATION, BUT IS ALSO THE FIFTH LARGEST COUNCIL BY POLULATION IN AUSTRALIA (JULY 2014).

Today, Blacktown continues to be home to a large Aboriginal population, the largest of any suburb or township in New South Wales. Is there Census data to back this up? Steven Fitter 14:19, 10 December 2005 (UTC) YES... All Censuses back this up Tony Mossfield 15:14, 11 June 2010 (UTC+10)

According to the ABS, people classed as either Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders consitute 6,093 people out of the population of 256,364 - which equates to 2.37% of the population. I have absolutely no idea though if this population is "the largest of any suburb or township in New South Wales". -- All the best, Nickj (t) 01:07, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

The whole section is a direct copyvio from Blacktown City Council website, which itself does not provide any sources. I can only suggest it is from a census pre 2001 (As NickJ says the 2001 census identified a higher population). City Of Sydney Council Community Profile 2001 states there was an "indigenous population" of 38749 for the Sydney Statistical Division, only a couple of thousand for the City of Sydney itelf, at the time of the 2001 census. Same census - Blacktown LGA reports 6093

None of these figures is higher than Blacktown yet Blacktown is not on the list. Not sure what's going on there!

Maybe City of Blacktown comprises too many ATSIC "Indigenous Areas" however they are defined (I mean, Dubbo is not really very close to Wagga Wagga and AFAIK not part of the same land council). Here I was thinking it would be an easy thing to show is outright wrong... but it is getting harder not easier the more I look. Blacktown comprises 21 Indigenous Locations - all of Parramatta comprises 1 Indigenous Location (and the boundaries don't marry with those of the City of Parramatta). So no doubt this is a claim "a variety" of locations will equally justificably be able to make claim to. Garrie 01:17, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
