1953 evacuation

[edit]

The article could do with further information on why the islands' population was 'evacuated'. 87.113.32.235 (talk) 23:52, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its elaborated upon in the Great Blasket Island article; In April 1947, having been cut off from the mainland for weeks due to bad weather, the islanders made an emergency call to the Taoiseach, Éamon de Valera, urgently requesting supplies which duly arrived two days later by boat. 90.142.144.88 (talk) 17:11, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Placename

[edit]

Flower connects the name to a supposed ON word "brasker", but I couldn't find it in any dictionary. "Dangerous" is hættr, place staðr. EamonnPKeane (talk) 16:50, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what is the best image size for the map of the islands on the page from this file File:Oileain na mBlascaod.png. Please change it to whatever is better! 2ManyCats4Me (talk) 10:56, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
