Bob and ToC

It says that Bob hosted ToC for 18 years and then moved on to TPIR in 1972. That means he would have had to host two shows simultaneously from 1972 to 1974. In any case, the sentence is wrong and I don't know how to fix it. Mike H 16:38, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)

Yes, Bob did host both shows for approximately three years. He ran The (New) Price Is Right during the daytime, and hosted Truth Or Consequences in nighttime syndication. CBSJokersWildFan 21:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Just Porsche?

Is this true? I went to http://www.gullible.info/ and it said that this was so, but with "gullible" as the address I'm not so sure...

Why is this in here?

It's fine to have a mention of Bob's 80th birthday on a Million Dolalr Spectacualr, but why the entire paragraph on it? And what does the 6000th show have to do with Barker? Also, it says in one paragraph that The Price Is Right celebrated its 30th anniversary in September 2002, yet on another paragraph below it says "That same year", and mentioned the 6000th show, which was in 2004. I assume I'm breaking wikipedia rules by trying to broadcast my message in this way, but here goes. Somebody really needs to fix that lawsuit section. It should be proofread and split into paragraphs or totally removed.

I completely rewrote the lawsuit section, trying to strip it down to the bare essentials and keep as much of a neutral POV as possible. I understand that Hallstrom's lawsuit was reactivated by a court in 2004, but I can't find out any information about it, save that she supposedly won "millions" from her case. Bob Barker is a Karateka?

Category: Native American actors?

Barker is currently listed under Category:Native American actors. However, I was under the impression that even though Barker lived on an Indian reservation growing up, he himself was not Native American. Successor date

First of all, to TPIRFanSteve and the anon, please discuss what you want to do here, not in edit summaries or on the administrator's noticeboard. Secondly, I actually side with the anon here. The fact is, lots could happen between now and June. For one thing, Bob is almost 83 years old. There is a decent chance that he could have significant health problems or even pass away between now and June 2007, in which case the end of his run as host might be earlier than June 2007. The article already says that he is scheduled to leave in June. That's good enough for now, I think. We can't definitely state when his last show will be until he has that last show. --Woohookitty^(meow) 10:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I've readded the date with a caveat of "(announced)". Based on a few other pages, that seems to be the standard procedure for this sort of thing, as opposed to just leaving the end date blank. -TPIRFanSteve 16:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

That's a bit better, but I still think it should just have the end date blanked. It is mentioned quite a bit anyway in his article and in the show's article, and there is a possibility that he may get sick or die in the next year, you never know. And what if he reconsiders and wants to do another season? Not likely, but not totally out of the question. I'm not going to mess with it for awhile, but since he technically is still the current host of the show, it should just be left open, until we can be certain that his last show has aired. That doesn't matter, in my personal opinion, I believe Bob. But saying that third-hand information is valid is pretty faulty. I still think on the basis that he is still the current host, and that the proposed ending date is a long ways off (and fairly vague), and the possibility that Bob could have health problems or such, it should just be left open. 68.79.132.216 04:36, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

I understand why you would think that third-hand information might be invalid, but you need to consider the source here. The staff of Golden-Road.net is well-known in the game show community for having connections with Price's staff, and the webmasters talk to the show's producer on the phone several times a month. (I'm not making any kind of argument here for what is or isn't acceptable for Wikipedia -- just trying to lay out where I'm coming from.)

As for the end date, I'm not going to change it one way or the other at this point. I don't want to get into an extended pissing match over this, and I think you and I could probably both accomplish a lot more here if we're not constantly shouting at each other, anyway. I tend to jump at drastic changes to these articles, because they usually result in a lot of inaccuracies, but most of the alterations you've made in the last few days actually are valid. -TPIRFanSteve 05:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Mission, South Dakota

On the November 10, 2006 episode of The Price Is Right, Bob said that he grew up in Mission, South Dakota. The article currently says it was Rosebud, South Dakota. I do not know where his mother taught school. Backspace 18:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

This is correct. Mission is the town on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. And, as of today for some reason it isn't even mentioned that most of his childhood was spent on the Rosebud Reservation.

According to the CBS website, he spent most of his youth on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota where his mother was a schoolteacher. Can this be added to his bio on Wikipedia? South Dakotans are proud of their few famous people, like Bob.

Is Barker dead?

Who is this Reigert person? A google search turned up nothing. I originally removed this part because there is no other mention of it in the article. Someone needs to explain what this part is about. End date

Please stop putting the end date in for Bob's run as host of TPiR. 2 reasons. Firstly, no replacement has been named. And secondly, Bob has indicated that if they can't find another host, he will be glad to come back. Essentially, he's the host until they have a new host. It's just like people who tried to put the end date in last winter. You can't assume that he's done until a replacement has been picked. I am torn on this point. I definately see a good reason to post an end date though. Would you list the end date of Seinfeld as the date the finale aired? or the date the last rerun aired in the thursday @ 9 timeslot? I can definately see the argument that The last first-run episode is the end of his hosting, regardless of someone else hosting. If the show went off the air after all his reruns, and no new host was named, he would still have ended his run.

If the show comes back with a new host in october, will you put the end date as today? or the day before that person first hosts? Is it an argument over what the date is, or an argument over when to decide that he has actually retired? It has been thoroughly and officially announced that he is retiring, and it's extremely simple to edit "retired" to "current" if they retract his retirement, but I don't think that's a reason to claim that he hasn't retired until he has been replaced. For purposes of a succession box, it is not necessary, since a successor is not named. Otherwise the succession box is unnecessarily cluttered, when it is only supposed to serve as an overview. As of now there is a ever-so-slight uncertainty that Barker may not be done hosting. When it is absolutely confirmed, and a successor named, then that can change.—Twigboy 03:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

That's My Line

I just saw Bob Barker hosting a show called "That's my Line" in a clip on YouTube, and the wikipedia article for that show states that he hosted it in 1980-1981, but I noticed that this article had no mention whatsoever of the show. New issue with end date

We all know Bob Barker's last new episode aired back in June and he retired as of June 5th. Bob's episodes are currently in reruns until the Friday before October 15th, when Carey's first episode premieres. Since Bob's shows are in reruns, why is his last hosting day being listed as October in the succession box now when his last NEW show was in June?

If we list it as October, this will pose some interesting issues... particular with Bill Cullen's succession box and Bob's start date... Bill stopped hosting TPiR when it went off the air in the 60s. Bob didn't start hosting until 1972... are we going to list Bob as the host as of 1960-something? --Mr. Brown 04:46, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

It used to say 1972-2007, which I think is suffice for a summary succession box; leave the details to the article. He was host from the beginning of the 1972 television season to the end of the 2007 television season. Adding the exact dates does not add to the reader's complete understanding of Barker's tenure. Controversy section incomplete

The controversy section mentions a single October 07 lawsuit against Barker for sexual harassment. The price is wrong, Bob - Misquoted?

"The price is wrong, bitch" might be misquoted (maybe there's a directors cut?) but all over Google you can find it as "The price is wrong, Bob". See Google Cache of Deseret Morning News - Happy Gilmore Supaplex (talk) 08:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Health Section Incomplete

Thank you! I knew I read it in People Magazine and I also knew before it was announced that Bob was going to make a few appearances. I knew when he said he was retiring, I knew that it wasn't going to be full retirement like it was with Johnny Carson. When Johnny Carson retired yeah he made a few appearances on David Letterman but after that, he pretty much never did any media for the rest of his life. Bob Barker I knew from the moment he left The Price Is Right that one day he was going to return to the stage and make a few appearances while he's still alive.

Not long ago, Bob wrote an autobiography of himself called "Priceless Memories". While hearing more about this new book, I revealed at golden-road.net that Bob may appear on The Price is Right to promote his book. This rumor proved to be true from golden-road.net, but I don't know when exactly this episode will air. If anybody knows, please mention this in the article.

GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards

Just so everybody knows, we do not know if Bob Barker will be at the 2009 Game Show Awards, as he is in a feud with Betty White over a plan to relocate an elephant to another zoo. Barker has also threatened that if White shows up at the awards, Barker will not appear.

Animal Rights

Neutrality questioned: re-whaling

Although Barker served in the United States Navy during the World War II era, no reliable sources found as of yet state that he served overseas in a war zone during the war. Why is this in here?

It's fine to have a mention of Bob's 80th birthday on a Million Dolalr Spectacualr, but why the entire paragraph on it? And what does the 6000th show have to do with Barker? Also, it says in one paragraph that The Price Is Right celebrated its 30th anniversary in September 2002, yet on another paragraph below it says "That same year", and mentioned the 6000th show, which was in 2004. I assume I'm breaking wikipedia rules by trying to broadcast my message in this way, but here goes. Somebody really needs to fix that lawsuit section. It should be proofread and split into paragraphs or totally removed.

I completely rewrote the lawsuit section, trying to strip it down to the bare essentials and keep as much of a neutral POV as possible. I understand that Hallstrom's lawsuit was reactivated by a court in 2004, but I can't find out any information about it, save that she supposedly won "millions" from her case.
