This page is repeatedly vandalised. Bob Paisley was never knighted and it is not within the remit of Wikipedia users to confer posthumous knighthoods as far as I am aware. Nicander 13:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just read that newspaper article that said the FAI interviewed him for the manager's position before Jack Charlton was hired, but the paper said Wales, not Ireland at all. I don't want to change it cause it may well be true but either the statement or the link is wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.159.1 (talk) 11:40, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Most succesful"[edit]

The most succesful manager is Alex Ferguson, who has now won 25 major titles with Manchester United (overtaking Paisley, who won 19). Fergie also won 8 major titles with Aberdeen. Full list:
  • Ferguson - 9 leagues, 5 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 5 Charity Shields, 1 Champions League, 1 Cup Winner's Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 UEFA Supercup (25)
  • Paisley - 6 leagues, 3 League Cups, 5 Charity Shields, 1 UEFA Cup, 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Super Cup (19)

So I have slightly amended it to say "one of" the most succesful. Neil () 11:38, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the statement about Ferguson currently having 25 major titles. Not because it's incorrect (now) but because it's a maintenance nightmare. When (if?) Fergie wins another it's unlikely that somebody will go to an article about Paisley to see if it needs updating. 69.107.78.126 00:26, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I object to the Charity Shield being counted as a "major" trophy. I would suggest that either his record state "14 major trophies, or "19 competitive trophies". N.B. the same should also apply to Sir Alex Ferguson.
It should also be noted that, as of this edit, under trophies won it specifically calls the first league title as "his first major trophy", despite having already won the charity shield. BeL1EveR 15:37, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, that's a poor comparison, Paisley was manager for just nine years, and won 14 trophies (excluding the charity shield), Fergie has been manager for 24 years, so a little one sided. In Ferguson's best nine years out of 24 he won 11 trophies. You can't really compare 24 years with nine, but it is worth noting that in 24 years, Fergie has won the title 11 times, Paisley won it six times in just nine years. 86.6.56.105 (talk) 10:28, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As it stands it reads as a subjective opinion and contravenes WP:OR. It cannot stay in without a source. Leaky Caldron 12:05, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It would need a source obviously, but might it be correct to say the most successful English manager of all time? Lord Cornwallis (talk) 02:50, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

posthumours knighthood[edit]

i agree that a knighthood would be justified, but posthumours knighthoods arn't awarded. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/6262768.stm this article explains why jock stein wasnt awarded posthumous knighthood. sorry but its not gonna happen --Numberwang 19:08, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Posthumously honoured[edit]

picture[edit]

I think it would be better if the top of the article had a photo of the man himself rather than a photo of an engraving. I can understand statues and engravings for people from ancient times but for modern people I think an actual photograph of the person is better. Firestar47 (talk) 12:38, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
