Don't put the cite back[edit]

Besides making no sense, saying that females think he was the sexiest is not NPOV. How do you know that males didn't find him sexy? How do you not know that people thought Phil was sexiest? Snapfisher 21:50, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another BLP with ZERO footnotes??[edit]

I removed the following...

"He is perhaps most recognizable for his lead vocal on the Dead's song "Truckin'", released on the 1970 album American Beauty. Although overshadowed as an instrumentalist by lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, Weir was considered to have the strongest voice in the group."

From his listing athttp://www.dead.net/index2.php, "Over the years, he grew to be one of rocks finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists ... he became the co-lead-vocalist with Garcia, and wrote a number of important songs." At All Music Guide, "As the health of Dead frontman Ron "Pigpen" McKernan waned, Weir found his rich baritone increasingly at the center of attention and developed a stage personality to match it" and "As Garcia's dependence on drugs increased, Weir found himself increasingly in the position of de facto bandleader." As for information for GD books, I will see what I can find when I get home from work today/tonight.

Ratdog[edit]

This article states that Ratdog was formed after Garcia's death. I believe Ratdog was formed well before this. I have a tape of Ratdog performing the day Garcia died. I will have to do some hunting for a formation date of Ratdog.

Most recorded musician in history?[edit]

With all his concerts with the grateful dead and his hundreds of shows with ratdog... is there any other musician that could be recorded more than Bob Weir? I racked my brain and couldn't come up with anyone. Jhayes94 (talk) 04:25, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the Jerry Garcia article, it says, "According to fellow Bay Area guitar player Henry Kaiser, Garcia is 'the most recorded guitarist in history. With more than 2,200 Grateful Dead concerts, and 1,000 Jerry Garcia Band concerts captured on tape — as well as numerous studio sessions — there are about 15,000 hours of his guitar work preserved for the ages.'" I can't answer about the formation of RatDog, but I saw and met Weir and Wasserman as "Weir and Wasserman" not long after Jerry's passing - perhaps mid-late 90's. I was an active and aware DeadHead, and never heard the name RatDog til years later. Regarding Weir, and his manifold influences, I was in a band the played covers including Box of Rain. I don't see a way to fit it into the 'pedia article, but I asked him for advice on mastering playing "box" and he told me to listen to Stravinski's Rite of Spring. " unique style of complex voiceleading"[edit]

The lede has, for a long time, stated that Weir is known for his "unique style of complex voiceleading." There's no citation, and I don't even really know what this means. Unless a cite is provided, I will delete this in time. Brianga (talk) 20:14, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Voice leading" is the way chords are used to underlie the other musicians'/singer's parts. The phrase here sounds like an overall generalisation instead of a sourced idea, but Googling "Bob Wier voice leading" brings up heaps of hits including a lot of forums discussing his technique on various songs (so the statement is probably true) and this article[1] may be a good enough reference to support it. I note that this site[2] uses almost the exact same phrase but has spelling mistakes and hasn't copied the rest of the content from Wikipedia - perhaps it's the original source?
