Promotional content[edit]

Much of this article is still too promotional. As just one example, the list of awards lacks WP:SECONDARY sources, and most of the awards lack articles, so there is not enough context to determine what the awards actually signify. The archive.org link for the European magazine award isn't working for me,[1] but even if it worked, there is no simple way to determine what that award signifies. What is this magazine? Does it have an article that explains this? Does it have an editorial board, what's its circulation? Without at least some minimal context, mentioning it merely serves to puff-up the subject of the article without actually providing any meaningful information. Other than the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, I don't think any of the awards, which are listed in the lead for some reason, have articles. These non-notable awards should be supported by very solid secondary sources before being included. What is the "Ignatian Award"? Even after reading the source, I still don't know, other than that it's an alumni award. I'm sure it looks great in his study, but why is it encyclopedically significant?

The underlying problem is that this article is likely an WP:AUTOBIO or has similar WP:COI problem. It includes obscure, unsourced info, such as the high school graduation and college transfer info, that suggests this was written by someone with first or second-hand information, which is WP:OR, among other things. The article is eager to paint a picture of Mattson as a great man, but this isn't the place for hagiography.

This is a WP:BLP, a biography of a living person, and per BLP policy, unsourced information about a living person must be sourced or removed. The appropriate way to fix these problems is to find sources for all unsourced info. All sources should specifically mention Mattson, exceptions are very rare, otherwise it's WP:SYNTH. If no such source can be found, the info should not be included in the article. Other than routine, uncontroversial biographical details (such as schools attended, birthdates, etc.) factual info should use WP:SECONDARY sources. This means the source is not associated with Mattson, but it also means that using the website of a non-notable award to support the inclusion of the award is inappropriate. For opinions the article needs to clearly explain whose opinion it is. None of this "widely regarded as a visionary in the semiconductor industry and is gaining prominence in the field of solar power" garbage which was supported by one interview in a business book, a passing mention, and press releases by one of Mattson's companies! Wikipedia is not a platform for promotion, and such obviously promotional wording is WP:PEACOCK wording that violate Wikipedia's WP:NPOV guideline. Grayfell (talk) 21:12, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed most of the awards, and made a number of other changes. The E&Y award was not properly supported, as the press release only said he was a finalist in Norther California in a specific category.
