University of Essex Alumnus?[edit]

RE: Isn't it a bit odd not to mention it in the main body of the article? Daen 00:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the reason for this may be because the years he was at Essex coincided with mine: 1965-69. If he was born in 1949, as stated in this and every other public biography I have come across, then he was a very mature personality, as I, and peers of his will remember him with affection, and with respect (especially for his subsequent achievements) as a serious, intelligent student, good-humoured but perhaps rather more sober and grown-up than most of us, even then!

Possibly, following a practice common among those working in the medium to which Brian dedicated his career, he may over the years have found it expedient to be more economical with the facts of his age than he ever was in dispatches. Who cares? It in no way detracts from his CV, but simply makes it an even longer career, and demonstrates an aspect of his determination to stay with it as long as possible. It was a pleasure to have known him, and to have followed his subsequent work.

PS I'm sorry - new to this: I should have dated the above entry : 12:00, 20 December 2010 And signed it - but don't understand how, so will just initial it: GB — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabadab (talkcontribs) 11:55, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem - just type four tildes (this symbol: ~) in a row after you post, or hit the "Signature" button in the editing toolbar before you submit your edit (it's to the left of the Advanced menu). --Brammers (talk/c) 14:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
