Naming

[edit]

I'm surprised by this article title (Filton Aerodrome). I worked there from 1957 to 1993 and live only 10 miles away. It might have been called Filton Aerodrome many years ago but for a long time now it has been called Filton Airfield. I think the title should be changed if there's a concensus - Adrian Pingstone 20:37, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The runway length is inconsistant between the text and the infobox. References? Joe D (t) 03:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The runway headings were wrong as well. Both the AIP and the WAD had same info on length and headings. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 04:23, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name of article

[edit]

According to the Filton Airfield website, the current correct name of the place is Bristol Filton Airport, so I intend to move this article from Filton Aerodrome to Bristol Filton Airport. Are there any objections to this? Gasheadsteve 08:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done, since no objections were raised. Gasheadsteve 10:50, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spitfires at Filton following the 'Filton Blitz'

[edit]

According to the RAF Filton entry, 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron (Auxiliary Air Force) was moved in from 26 September 1940, flying Hawker Hurricane Mk1 fighters, as a result of this raid - not Spifires as stated in this article. Anyone know for sure which statement is correct? Andywebby (talk) 21:41, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of the ghost seen on GoogleEarth?

[edit]

I have to admit this is weird. It's the figure of a man standing to the south of the main runway near some demolished WWII buildings. It was even reported!86.143.55.59 (talk) 18:11, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Closure reasons?

[edit]

Why was this airport decided to be closed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clrichey (talkcontribs) 03:09, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
