Terminus

I can never make any sense of these diagrams but Bristol St Philips may have been the original terminus but it ceased to be so long before 1953. Chevin (talk) 14:14, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The St Philips station did remain open as a terminus until 1953, as this article shows. Services were probably cut back beforehand, with some services terminating at Temple Meads prior to this date. I've done a bit of investigation since, though nothing definitive, but it seems St Philips was the terminus for trains from Bath (Green Park?) I'm not sure why. The Midland had been able to share Temple Meads for many years as the terminus of the Gloucester line for trains from the north to allow onward travel to Exeter and Penzance. (I've used the service on and off since 1942) According to Bristol Temple Meads railway station "in 1844 broad gauge trains of the Bristol and Gloucester Railway (B&G) began running from the station" Chevin (talk) 16:49, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where is Berkeley Road?

Can someone please confirm for me the location of Berkeley Road railway station? I've tried to find it on maps and aerial photos, but to no avail. Geographic long/lat coordinates would be good. Found it! It's tucked next to the village of Dursley at the still existing junction to the Sharpness branchline. David Bailey (talk) 12:13, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too much loco detail

The info on this page about the early locomotives would be better placed in their own linked article - perhaps 'Midland Railway broad gauge locomotives'? Not enough company detail

An editor has commented "Too much loco detail". I agree with him that it is disproportionate in the article, but I think the problem is the reverse: the detail on the company and geography is tiny. I will have a go at expanding this over the next few weeks. So far as the locomotives are concerned, the broad gauge locos on the line are rather special, I suppose, as no-one thinks of the Midland Railway as ever having any broad gauge ... so maybe in this case the amount of text about them is justified.
