I believe it was around 1975 that Highway 6 was upgraded between Slocan City and Silverton. Perhaps someone can provide an accurate date? A short tunnel along Slocan Lake was bypassed by building a new highway above it. Here is a link to some pretty amazing photographs of the Kootenay region (and other areas):
