Text on the Burmese nationalist movement

[edit]

This page is about British rule in Burma, and, I believe, it should focus on that; the text on the Burmese nationalist movement should go into the Nationalist movement in Burma page, which remains a stub. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 20:11, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Colonial India template

[edit]

Since Burma was in British India until 1937, I have also added the Colonial India to the article (below the History of Myanmar template). If you don't like the template, or would like to move it up or down, or don't want it in the article at all, please let me know here. Merge British Imperialism in Burma/Myanmar and British rule in Burma

[edit]

I would say merge British Imperialism in Burma/Myanmar into British rule in Burma and highlight the issues of imperialism in that article. Gryffindor (talk) 15:35, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As the only opinion was in agreement I have merged a large part of the content of the imperialism article into the British rule one. Please comment if you have any views on the changes or the text left behind.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 16:03, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bias

[edit]

The article seems to give a very one-sided negative account of the ramifications of British rule. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.73.227 (talk) 13:05, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - and it contains a great number of biased assumptions. Not good enough wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.253.4.7 (talk) 00:55, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anglo Military Occupation and Burmese Authority GovernmentBritish rule in Burma – This controversial subject was moved today without any talk at all. It was then moved a second time and a robot fixed the double redirect so that I can't move it back. It should be done asap and the subject of moving talked about before taking such action again. In the movers' defense, the previous name made no sense at all so it was good that you were obliged to handle the material at a standard name.
That said, the separate British governments like Burma Province should really be handled separately. — LlywelynII 06:09, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Referring to historic "Burma", not to modern "Myanmar"

[edit]

I have just replaced today's name of the country by Burma, where it refers to the historic state. Also, I have flagged some "Citations missing" and don't think that the repeated references to the article in the Encyclopedia Britannica on the British in Burma without any page reference are sufficient. Instead, I have included a quotation and reference from the webpage of the EB https://www.britannica.com/place/Myanmar/The-initial-impact-of-colonialism, so that readers can refer to that article more conveniently. - In general, this wp article gives a good overview in my view. Chief Commissioners missing,

[edit]

I've noticed that Harcourt Butler and Frederick William Richards Fryer are not in the article as Chief Commissioners of Burma, why is that? Ben3441 (talk) 06:30, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

...and killing Rangoon University student. As no inline ref to turn to, would someone kindly correct the grammar: either "killing a Rangoon University student", "killing Rangoon University students", or something else. Thanks. Davidships (talk) 23:07, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese language map

[edit]

Surely there's something in English we could use instead. The current image is entirely useless to English Wiki WP:READERS aside from 'ooh... pretty'. — LlywelynII 04:46, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Divisions

[edit]

Ok... so what were they before 1885? The 1882 Encyclopaedia Britannica, 9th ed., has entirely different sections but no clear map. — LlywelynII 06:13, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
