I am Shelagh Delves Broughton, half sister to David Delves Broughton and the sister of Geoffrey Delves Broughton. My understanding isn't that David’s claim to the title hasn’t been proven, but that it really isn't a part of himself that he has considered important enough to follow through with.

His parents, his mother and my father, Peter John Delves Broughton, were married briefly during the war and then divorced just afterward. His mother remarried shortly afterwards, moving to Australia with David who was a very young child at that time. I am not really sure if he remembers my father at all. Times were very different then they are today and I was led to believe that he wasn’t really aware of his family’s background until the film White Mischief was released for his mother hadn't told him of his families background.

Being that for David, at least as far as my understanding goes, having grown up in Australia unaware of this background, that attention that all else that came with the title, wasn’t something that he sought for himself and hasn't therefore chosen to make it a part of his life.

Geoffrey Delves Broughton, my younger brother, on the other hand was made aware of his family background as my parents remained married up until my fathers death. He has sons of his own and when the time comes that he inherits the title, I believe that he will feel more comfortable with it, having been aware of it all of his life.

We haven’t chosen to follow this all that closely, however, in any event, I would be interested to find out any further details, if there are any that I am unaware of. Aren't the first two sections about the same thing? 66.201.52.100 (talk) 12:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alfred William

[edit]

I saw "Alfred William Delves-Broughton" listed as a Captain, R.M. in the WW1 Royal Navy members rolls (in the Scottish National War Museum at Edinburgh Castle). 94.116.157.66 (talk) 19:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Theodore Delves

[edit]

After consulting the online "Peerage" I have corrected his birth year from 1827 to 1872, giving his lifespan a credible 72 years (as against 117 which makes him too old for his serving in World War I).Cloptonson (talk) 20:56, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
