What is "break-bulk"?

Sometimes bulk cargo is loaded into containers for back haul. This is commonly done with U.S. waste paper, which is put in containers and sent to Asia. It also helps get the containers out of the U. S. where there is no use for them. It uneconomical to return them empty. I believe grain is sometimes put in them. Nevertheless, grain is bulk material because it is almost always handled Phmoreno (talk) 23:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
