Islamist "victory"?[edit]

The operation is a failure indeed but are you sure this is an islamist "victory"? They lost 17 men to 2 French guys and lost the hostage without any ransom or political advantage from France (prisonners release, change in foreign policy, etc...).

I propose we write in the result: "operation failed, hostage killed", it is more accurate to me. What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.93.165.206 (talk) 18:40, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Saying "operation failed, hostage killed" puts the article clearly from the point of view of the French. I do not think that this is compatible with WP:NPOV. From the point of view of Al-Shabaab, the fight ended in a relatively costly but ultimately successful defence. Rama (talk) 10:59, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe change: "The operation failed and may have led to the death of Allex." to "The operation failed in rescuing Denis Allex and may have led to his death." ? 62.41.179.244 (talk) 11:16, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We could also say "Operation unsuccessful, conflicting claims in fate of hostage" — Preceding unsigned comment added by JeffLogan123 (talkcontribs) 04:28, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the islamists to have won/kept something they would have had to end up with one hostage alive, or more. Not 2 dead bodies. The operation was cancelled by the French when it was clear there was nobody to save anymore. Aesma (talk) 15:17, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates[edit]

The location coordinates are obviously wrong. There's nothing there.

According to NASA, coordinates are 1°38'N - 44°32'E: Buulo Mareer in Somalia, as supplied by the US military intelligence --84.120.134.152 (talk) 19:53, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
