Debenhams / Garlands

[edit]

I found the Leathergoods article from 1949 which shows Buntings was purchased by Debenhams. But I have also found pictures of the old Garlands store without Buntings there just before the fire, where a previous picture had shown Buntings at that location.[1][2] I can't find any information that Buntings was merged into Garlands, which Debenhams also owned.Davidstewartharvey (talk) 15:26, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chamberlins Bunting link.

[edit]

As per THE DIRECTORY OF DIRECTORS 1927 https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=VRMtAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA222&dq=%22chamberlins%22+norwich&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi5hMGzqvr9AhWWaMAKHSN-D28Q6AF6BAgJEAM#v=onepage&q=%22chamberlins%22%20norwich&f=false Charles and John Bunting were directors of Chamberlins, as was the Chamberlin family. They were both bought by Debenhams in 1949. A web snippet view from The New Dawn in 1955 says "Chamberlins Ltd. , with 39 . 40 . wholesale and retail drapery business in Norwich and which also directly controls :26. Buntings Ltd. , ( Norwich ) ." Unfortunately I can't see the full text. This looks like Buntings may have been merged with or bought by Chamberlins. I can't find any further information.Davidstewartharvey (talk) 19:45, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have now found the following in The Stock Exchange Official Year-book 1944.[3] which says Chamberlins did control Buntings.Davidstewartharvey (talk) 11:21, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
