Clean-up
I have been cleaning up several economics articles and this came under my view. Nobody seems to be watching it so I just went ahead and changed it. Posted here just in case anyone is actually watching, so they can dispute/discuss etc. SimonTrew (talk) 23:45, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
IPA -citation
The IPA pronunciation was taken verbatim from my Collins Concise dictionary of about 20 years' age, and I checked as best I could with Wikipedia IPA pages. I imagine it does vary quite a lot, in practice, from place to place. If I have made any glaring error please do discuss it or fix it. Unfortunately I am moving house today so all my books are in cardboard boxes, otherwise I would give it the citation (at least in Talk). If I recall I checked wiktionary but there is no entry there. - Can't have checked (or not properly); Wiktionary gives it as UK: /ˈbjʊː(ɹ).əʊ.dəˌʃɒ̃ʒ/. whereas I'd put it as /'bjurjoʊ dæ ʃɔərʒ/. Probably best to go with Wiktionary, though it is well hinted there that there are many other different pronunciations, perhaps worth just removing it altogether?
- There is no standard pronunciation for any word in the English language, certainly not for "foreign sounding" words like this. The French pronunciation is, of course, the 'standard' pronunciation but this is rarely used properly in the UK, Ireland or Europe. I imagine Americans don't use the term because they're even shitter at foreign languages than the Brits.--217.203.140.27 (talk) 22:15, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
