Currently, Recruitment Process Outsourcing has a page of its own, but its content substantially duplicates BPO so perhaps its worth merging the two. RPO could become a section of the BPO article. Any thoughts? Saganaki- 01:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

RPO is a type of HR outsourcing activity (where only the recruitment process is outsourced). While it is a subset of BPO, it might merit its own page. Starpeak (talk) 19:44, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Material on India

The material on India looks very interesting, but I'd propose deleting it if it can't be referenced. Saganaki- 01:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Because its highly detailed and looks like it comes from a single source and should be verifiable. The rest of the article is composed of generalities which will need to be sourced, but the facts are not as "hard" as these datapoints.Saganaki- 05:57, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
It's even Industry size that has the hard details, not just India.Unless there are some contradicting data points that you have, the citation required tags should do. Haphar 13:51, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Newspaper reports, if one looks hard enough one would find some online versions, NASSCOM / The Economic Times would have carried it. Haphar 07:43, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
The material is very fragmented and poorly referenced. If no sources are obtained, or a major rewrite it made, I also would suggest a deletion of the sections at hands. Elbl02 (talk) 09:53, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Offshore BPO vs Total BPO

I am confused about the distinction between offshore BPO and total BPO in the sentence in the Industry Size section comparing India's revenue from each:

"India has revenues of 6.4 Billion USD [2] from offshore BPO and 36 3 Billion USD from IT and total BPO."

Also, the sentence includes the IT industry in the total BPO comparison, and it is unclear why this is. IT in India as a large industry would presumably impact this comparison very significantly.

It is unclear what point this sentence is trying to make.

The performance of Indian companies revenue from outsourcing is outdated. TCS had an expeted revenue of $12.5B alone for 2008, and IT services expected of $31B. (Source: NASSCOM factsheet from the NASSCOM strategic review 2008 http://www.nasscom.in/upload/5216/strategic_review_feb2008.doc )

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Business function outsourcing (BFO) – is a form of human resource outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of specific business functions to a third-party service provider. Business process

Any reader would obviously ask "What is a business process?"

Furthermore, Business process doesn't really tell them. According to a recent Gartner report it consists of relatively menial tasks such as data entry, paperwork, call center work that requires vocational not university education.

I'm giving this input as a Wikiipedia user for educational purposes, the articles I contribute are in non-business areas. (Jonfernquest 07:23, 31 August 2006 (UTC))

Business Process does not define a task, such as typing or answering phone calls. Business Process (as its name implies) defines a process required for a business outcome. This process is composed of a series of tasks, and Business Process (magazines not withstanding) does not define the sophistication of these tasks. Many business processes do consist of tasks that require a high level of training, such as a legal task or an architect task (software and hardware).
Google's define function (as always) gives a good breadth of reputable sources' definitions.

BPO helped to transform Nortel from a bureaucratic organization into a very agile competitor[citation needed].

Reads like puffery for BPO. After all, Nortel was so agile that it went under! ;-)

The entry seems to use business process outsourcing and IT outsourcing interchangably. IT outsourcing should be clearly stated as an example of a business process that can be outsourced, in much the same way that HR, Marketing or manufacturing can be outsourced to another service provider. Particularly in this XaaS world, it is not limited to IT. cebess 13:00, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
