Butler poetry

[edit]

I believe this claim to fame:

was added by the author of the book (ISBN 0595284426). So I wanted to check with other editors whether it is a notable book or not. It has a very low Amazon ranking (1.8 million+) but then this is hardly the sort of thing that would be likely to get a high ranking. I guess the question is - is it famous within Butler? Have editors who don't live in Butler heard of it other than through Wikipedia? Should it actually be in the article? Thanks --Siobhan Hansa 14:10, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, its published by IUniverse, which is a self-publisher. So I would tend to not include it, if no other info available. However, this maybe is a kind a special case - a whole book of poems about the town; if I was interested in the subject of this article, I might well be interested in knowing the existence of this book. Nevertheless, unless and until we find some sign of notability, a writeup or something at least, I would say don't include it. Herostratus (talk) 17:46, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Donald Trump shooting

[edit]

As the 2024 shooting at a Donald Trump rally article was recently made, I have removed unnecessary references in this page. I'm looking for a consensus on what to include about the shooting here. LucasR muteacc (talk) 23:38, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks perfect right now, except that I would include "lightly" before "injured". Yitz711 (talk) 14:44, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Trump Shooting??

[edit]

The Trump Shooting occurred in Butler Twp. Not The city of butler. I think it is confusing to state that it happened here when it didn't. There have been many people harassing Butler City Officials and employees. I don't want there to be confusion and a blame on Butler City when they had nothing to do with it. Many people who are not as well informed in the area think it happened in Butler City, even though it didn't. They'll expect to see the Trump shooting info here. However the section can clarify that the venue where it happened was not in the Butler city limits. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:19, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I cited an article that stated that the mayor of Butler fielded a lot of inquiries even though the incident didn't happen in the city limits. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:27, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason I'm on this page is because Wikipedia's Main Page references the city on the "In The News" bullet points for today. It seems that we should be able to reference the city while still being clear about city limits as they do on the Main Page: "Former United States president Donald Trump survives an assassination attempt during a political rally near Butler, Pennsylvania." It seems odd to then come to the city's page and find nothing about this. Penguino35 (talk) 23:02, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed the municipal government put out a statement on its official website. As of writing, the statement about the Trump incident is on the Butler, Pennsylvania Wikipedia page. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:56, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
May that be in part because of people's belief that it happened in Butler that the city felt the need to put out a statement? Raskuly (talk) 19:44, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably. But also, it's not uncommon for City and County to feel representative of one another. Your backyard may not be your home, but you still don't want anyone trespassing on it. Regardless, I edited the WP:GOODFAITH edit by User:2601:547:c701:3450:cde0:e903:bcd2:651c [[1]] to include a clear distinction between where this event took place and Butler City. And thanks, WhisperToMe, I used that link as a reference.
On another note, I moved User:2601:547:c701:3450:cde0:e903:bcd2:651c's edit out of the lead section and included it under the subheading "Politics." The Wikipedia Manual of Style states, "The lead section is an introduction to an article and a summary of its most important contents. . . [The lead] should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic." Where the Donald Trump assassination attempt happened outside of city limits and isn't about the city but rather about a notable event that happened near the city, I would argue that it definitely doesn't belong in the lead.Penguino35 (talk) 20:09, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the shooting did not happen in the city, it should not be on the city article. A hatnote could direct readers to the article they are seeking. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. If the City of Butler deems it necessary to issue a formal apology on the subject, the subject deserves to exist in an article on the city. It does not deserve to exist in the lead. Penguino35 (talk) 20:12, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is more a Wikipedia policy issue, than an issue to be decided by some city. Editors habitually add stuff to city articles that are out-of-scope. The shooting literally did not occur here. Look at a map. The fairgrounds are over three miles from the city limits...40°51′26″N 79°58′16″W / 40.857159°N 79.971089°W / 40.857159; -79.971089. Let's get our facts straight and add the information to the correct article. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:22, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
