Bridge datas[edit]

206 meters is the total lenght of this bridge unlike many copy paste articles on the web claiming that this is the span lenght, please check on satellite views, the span seems to be around 160 meters. Satellite views are not very precise but it's impossible to have 46 meters of difference. Also, the data "210 meters" has no sources.

Weathering steel is in most cases not painted as it's a surface treatment, according to steelconstruction.info, the first bridge using this kind of steel in the UK was in 1967 for a small footbridge, I've many doubts that it could be used for a long span steel arch 1 year before in an old British colony. A closer view of the structure on secmet.co.za shows a regular steel. The article on steelconstruction.info mentions that it's very more expensive to transform the steel firstly in weathering steel, and repreparing the surface and paint it with a special painting after, it would be obvious if South Afica has outstanding budgets for roads infrastuctures in the 60s to make such innovative structure.

I found the February 4, 1967 for the official opening on southcoastherald.co.za.

And also, the main photo seems to be a copyvio from here, it's strange to have in 2020 photos of 80kb with no metadatas. --Glabb (talk) 08:49, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
