Famous players[edit]

What is the criteria for inclusion in the Famous players section. Is it a list of players that wikipedia editors believe should be there, or is it firm criteria that can be verified. If not this is just WP:OR and should be removed. Rettetast (talk) 16:53, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many teams do have articles (separate from the club article for reasons of size) that are a list of all their players: List of Gillingham F.C. players is an example that reached Featured list status. Rather more have a category for their players who have Wikipedia articles, like Category:FC Barcelona footballers. If it is the intention to have an all encompassing list, one of these is the way to go. If it is the intention to list some, but not all, of the players who have been associated with the club here, there must be a reason why some are included and others are not. That might be those who are the top ten in appearances for the club, or those inscribed in the club's Hall of Fame, or those who have made international appearances, or some other, objective, clear, verifiable criterion. An editor should not have to wonder whether, in his or her opinion, Esteban Trujillo deserves to be in such a list, they need only ask whether he meets the published criteria. If there is no agreed set of criteria for the list (and what is suitable will vary according to the history and status of the club), such a selection is POV and OR, and as such should be deleted.
