Name

[edit]

There are different names used for CENTOS in different sources, and this explains this (indirectly) on pages 95-96. The CENTOS founded in 1924 (which is the date commonly given by sources ex [1]), Związek Towarzystw Opieki nad Żydowskimi Sierotami Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, was an association and included previously existing organizations which became it's "regional committees". The Warsaw committee, perhaps most famous due to its WWII Warsaw Ghetto activities, was named Centralne Stowarzyszenie Opieki nad Dziećmi i Sierotami Żydowskimi. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:45, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yiddish publications

[edit]

Sources also seem confused about the names and numbers of the Yiddish publications of CENTOS. They generally name one Polish (no dispute there) and one Yiddis, but at least three different titles have been given for the Yiddish publication: "Unzer Kind", "Dos Kind" and "Dos Szucloze Kind". [2] mentions two of them and say they merged. Mispelling, errors or merges? Shrug. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:25, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello Piotrus. I'm reviewing your DYK. It definitely fits the criteria as was expanded over 5x and was nominated within 7 days. I've read through the article and it looks like a fascinating topic for a DYK, but there are a couple of minor concerns with C/E, such as "Major activist of the interwar period" and in the first para the use of "It had" or "It was" – it would be beneficial if these could be fixed. Apart from that, the hook looks good. The source doesn't seem to cover this DYK though; would you mind paraphrasing?

I've made a suggestion below.

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - ?
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Made a couple of suggestions. Hdolf (talk) 19:58, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've copyedited the article.
Thanks.

Great. Were you also able to find a more concrete source? Hdolf (talk) 17:49, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Evrik: Sorry, seems I missed the previous request. What exactly do you want a source for The linked source does state "C. zapisał też chlubną kartę w okresie Holokaustu, będąc m.in. centr. instytucją opieki nad dziećmi w getcie warszawskim." (maybe the Google translate doesn't do a good job here, due to abbreviations but it states that "C. = Centos wrote a great page for itself during the Holocaust when among others it was the central institution for taking care of children in the Warsaw ghetto"). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:58, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
