Cleanup of disambiguation

{{helpme}} I've been watching the actions of Thucydides34 (talk · contribs) and trying to help out where I can, but I'm not sure how to clean this up. Here is what I think should happen:

• CIAR should redirect to Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
• Cornell International Affairs Review should not disambiguate to anything else.

Then, two use cases:

1. If a user goes to CIAR, there should be a hatnote disambiguation link at the top of Canadian Institute for Advanced Research to Cornell International Affairs Review.
2. If a user goes directly to Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, there should not be a hatnote.

Is that possible? If not, then I suppose a disambiguation page is best, but then this would have to be moved to CIAR (disambiguation), I think. I just discovered (by having linked to the page) that Thucydides34 (talk · contribs) already created it... so it would be a simple matter of redirecting this page to that one. I'll do that now, though I'm not convinced it's the best solution. Having just checked a random acronym, namely OAS, I'm not sure that a page tagged as disambiguation is actually necessary.

I'm afraid you have it backward; generally one should not disambiguate three or fewer topics with a page whose title includes "(disambiguation)". Instead, make "CIAR (disambiguation)" redirect to CIAR; the latter should be the disambiguation. Not all disambiguations have "(disambiguation)" in their title.
