Character Has No Background

[edit]

I came here looking for information on the character's background, such as what future he's from and how he came to be infected with a techno-organic virus. Is anyone actually working on writing this, or is someone heavy-handedly editing it out? 74.174.59.10 (talk) 22:21, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Power and Abilities

[edit]

I almost want to put this under character biography, N E 1 else? Toodiesel 15:15, 13 March 2007 (UTC) It should be noted that he gained precognitive abilities after the techno organic virus was cured, which eventually resulted in the complete loss of his telepathic and telekinetic abilites (in the middle of a fight with some Reavers) This occurs in X-Force Volume 4: Vendetta. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.245.163.20 (talk) 16:55, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional character biography

[edit]

If you really want to have a FCB section for this article, then you need to go back and take a look at this old version where we actually had one and pull some stuff out of there, not this weird, lopsided thing we have now.24.148.0.83 (talk) 23:41, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why was that eliminated? Did some people who don't read comics or know anything about them just decide to eliminate valid content, simply because they don't like long articles? That's usually what happens. I motion we restore it. Opinions? Dream Focus 03:14, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We need to make that old version the new version and make appropriate edits to it if need be. The reasoning I was given for his history being butchered was that it did not fit with Wiki's writing standards. As I said above, that is fine and well but then it should have been left to a vote or something and then edited down, rather than just deleting his whole history and in the process taking away all the work that other people put into it. Although the older version that you have linked up, which I have been looking for, may be a little wordy or whatever, it should be up and we should take it from there. Considering his importance in the most recent X-Men series, he deserves a full character history. Is this something that we need to vote one? Or should someone just change it back and deal with whatever ramifications come from it? You two are pretty much the only other people that seem to notice, or care that this has happened. Well let me know sooner than later, but def. keep that link accessible, cause we can work right from there and get rid of this atrocious article that has replaced it.

We aren't a democracry, we don't vote on content issues in the way you suggest. A fictional character biogragpy can only exist if a) it treats cable as a fictional character in a narrative and identifies him as such and is b) based upon reliable independent sources to identify what is important (not simply by reading the comics, if that was the case I could do it as I own pretty much every appearance of the character). If you want to take a stab at it, I suggest you cut and paste the old history to your talkpage and try and make it conform to policy - but let me warn you, it's hard. --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:46, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want an example of what it should look like - see this work in progress. --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:49, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus is formed by what the majority of people want. And primary sources are fine for the information presented for a fictional article. What is important is that it has a complete list of information, showing how his powers were gained and lost over time, and notable events in his history(such as how he was created and first sent to the future, something which someone has removed since last time I visited this article[1]). Consensus and common sense says this is important, even if you can't find a source to tell you that. You have to actually think for yourself sometimes. Dream Focus 11:03, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong - that's original research, we let secondary sources decide for us what is important. None of that changes the fact that you must write a) treating the character as the object of the narrative not as if he is real and (while I think about it) b) that the history has to be in a *real world* chronical fashion not following the misleading fictional time line. And primary sources *alone* are NOT fine for an article about a fictional entity - you've been here a while, why you need to told such basic things is beyond me. --Cameron Scott (talk) 11:28, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How can you write about a character and not mention their origin? That is ridiculous! [2] We need more feedback on this please. Dream Focus 11:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mention it in the development section and write it from a real world perspective. You can still mention the in-universe aspects but they have to clear indicate *why* or how those choices were made.--Cameron Scott (talk) 11:51, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, looking it's *already* there, so you might want to expand on what's there to make the Mister Sinster link more explicit. --Cameron Scott (talk) 11:53, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Having said that a summary couple of paragraphs about his origins at the start of the article would be useful, do you want to write them or shall I take a stab? --Cameron Scott (talk) 12:00, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nathaniel?

[edit]

This article gives Cable's name as "Nathan". Is Nathan short for Nathaniel? I just assumed Cable's full name was Nathaniel because Nate Grey's full name is Nathaniel. (Cable and Nate Grey are supposed to be alt-universe versions of each other.) But I don't have a cite. 24.114.228.117 (talk) 11:57, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cable is Nathan Christopher Summers. X-Man is Nathaniel Grey. They're equivalents and are analogous, though have different enough origins to give them different names Sketchee (talk) 07:54, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
