Rationale for seperate articles for town of Calder and neighbourhood of Calder[edit]

The city of Edmonton has a formal residential subdivision called Calder. Parts of this neighbourhood are associated with the town or hamlet of Calder. Other parts might not.

So I've created a an article called Calder (Edmonton) as an article on the residential neighbourhood of Calder. This article focus on things like types of housing, periods of residential development, access to other areas of the city, schools, and the like. Things that would be important to someone looking for a place to live.

Stuff associated with the historical development of the area, particularly before the area became a part of Edmonton can be placed in the article on Calder, Alberta.

I merged the two articles, for a number of reasons:

The Calder, Edmonton article, by necessity, covered a lot of the information that was found in the Calder, Alberta article - having a separate stub was unecessary, and certainly made it more difficult for the reader to read up on the full story of Calder.
When an article becomes too large, it is common to break out sections into separate articles. That's not the case here, and breaking out a section pertaining to a short period in Calder's history (less than 10 years) is not only unnecessary, but it prevents the main article from providing a comprehensive picture of the community.
We typically do not create separate articles for periods in a community's existence, absent good reason to do so (usually because the main article is too large). Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:49, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
