Lack of sources and problems arising[edit]

Much of the content in this article is unreferenced. And, it is a prime example of the problems that can arise when editors fail to check reliable sources when adding new material to the article.

In this article, the Iraqi-born abstract artist, Hassan Massoudy (b. 1944) is described as a "calligraffiti artist" in multiple places within the article. Massoudy, still living, and now residing in France, is a respected artist and illustrator who accepts commissions, has exhibited in prestigious galleries and art musuems and has his work on display in permanent collections of note, throughout Europe and the Middle East. His artworks integrate Arabic calligraphy. He is NOT and never has been a graffiti artist. I am quite sure that he would be horrified to learn that he is being described as a graffiti artist. This type of commentary would not pass muster in a Wikipedia biography (WP:BLP). How is it allowed in a lateral offshoot article?

There is a big difference between calligraphy (or Islamic calligraphy) and calligraffiti - and all too often, this article confuses the two. BronHiggs (talk) 00:43, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of Artists[edit]

I recently consolidated 4-5 different lists of articles within this article into a single list. Duplicate names have been removed, and a few new names added. The list is now rather long - so perhaps it is time to hive the list off into a separate "List of Calligraffiti Artists" rather than continuing to add further names? Postscript[edit]

I have made a concerted effort to improve the referencing for artist names included in this article. However, many of them have no coverage in newspapers or magazines, nor have they participated in exhibitions or street art projects. Some of them had nothing more than a Facebook page listed as a reference. For many of them, their only claim to notability appears to be that they are so-called "calligraphic ambassadors" which, as I understand it, is an opt-in group. All have pages on social media (GB, Twitter, Pinterest, etc), but that's about it. A few have coverage in a blog called Urban Shit, which I question as a reliable source. Therefore, the notability of some of these artists must remain questionable.

For the time being, I have left references to the Ambassadors Network (which incidentally requires updating with new names), wherever a superior source cannot be found, because the nature of the subject matter is "underground" so there is less likely to be extensive mainstream coverage of individual artists. But my feeling is that the list probably needs to be reviewed in the near future.
