Hi! I'll be reviewing this article for GA status, and should have the full review up shortly. Dana boomer (talk) 15:48, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- There are quite a few redlinks in this article. If you think that all of these names are notable and have a good chance of having a WP article at some point in the future, they are fine to leave in. If they are probably not notable and probably won't have a lasting article on WP, they should be delinked. Done
- The Level 2 Heading "Biography" should be removed and all of the Level 3 headings changed to Level 2's. Done
- In the first paragraph of the Mayor of Villalba section, you repeat information on his family (his brothers in the church) that was given in the Early Years in Villalba section. Is this repetition necessary? I think it would be acceptable to leave in "He had a long record of involvement with Catholic social funds and there were several clergymen in his family", but the rest of the sentence (the details) can probably be removed. Done
- In the second paragraph of the King of the black market section, when you start the quote, is the "they" being discussed the mafia or the Americans? Please clarify. Done
- In the first paragraph of the Supporting the separatists section, you say "The Fronte Democratico demonstrated the Mafia's hesitation to fully commit to the movement. The Fronte was popular." I'm not sure how the first sentence shows that the organization demonstrated the Mafia's hesitation, and I'm not sure what the second sentence has to do with anything. It was popular among who? What does this have to do with the Mafia? Done
- I reshuffled the whole section. I hope it is more clear now. The Mafia support for separatism is quite a complicated issue. - Mafia Expert (talk) 22:26, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- In the Boss of bosses section is it necessary to have the quote by Lumia repeated in both the image caption and the text? I would remove it from the caption, leave it in the text. Not done
- Not necessary, but his description fits the image perfectly, and in the first image there is a rather large caption as well (although not repeated in the text). I rather like it. - Mafia Expert (talk) 22:26, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Again, in the Death and legacy sections, it is necessary to have the quote in both the caption and the text? Not done
- See above. - Mafia Expert (talk) 22:43, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Did he never marry or have children? Done
- Good question. I wondered about that myself but could not find any reference to a marriage or children in any of the sources. - Mafia Expert (talk) 19:55, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- It is factually accurate and verifiable.
- a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
- I've added fact tags in some places where I would like to see references. Done
- For the fact tag in the "Death" section - The New York Times article should be converted into a reference, rather than being left as an external link. The link takes me to a registration page, so I am not able to see the article. Please make sure that the article covers the entire paragraph (if indeed it's intended to reference the whole thing), and if the article doesn't cover it, please make sure that you have another reference that covers the additional information. Done
- Ref #2 needs publisher and access date info. Done
- Not clear who the publisher is. - Mafia Expert (talk) 23:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #20 needs an access date Done
- Ref #33 needs a publisher Done
- a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
- It is broad in its coverage.

- It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
- a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
- The Sherman tank image is non-fair use, and I'm not really sure how it significantly increases the reader's understanding of the subject. Is there a fair use image that it could be replaced by?
- The Sherman tank is meant to illustrate the arrival of the US Army in Villalba, but I agree it is a little bit awkward. I spent considerable time to find an image of a tank in the mountains of Sicily, and this was the only one. I included it because otherwise there would only be images at the beginning and the end of the article (and that would be the result again if, as you suggest at the end of this section, I would remove all that you think should go). Not sure what to do. I don't know if the images from the National Archives are in the public domain. The whole copy right issue is rather complicated and controversial. - Mafia Expert (talk) 00:00, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- The image of General Giuseppe Castellano has a deprecated license tag. Done
- Removed. - Mafia Expert (talk) 00:00, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- The image of Girolamo Li Causi is a non-fair use image, and has no rationale for use in this article. As non-fair use images are supposed to be kept to a minimum, it may be best for this image to be removed. Done
- I did not remove it (see above), but added a fair use rationale for this article. - Mafia Expert (talk) 00:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- There are a lot of non-fair use images in this article. Above I've mentioned a couple that could probably stand to be removed. The images of Vizzini himself should be fine, but the other images should either be replaced or removed altogether.
- See above, it would leave only images at the beginning and the end. However, maybe I could move the image of Vizzini with the Lumia caption up? - Mafia Expert (talk) 00:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

- Overall:
- Pass/Fail:
- Here's the beginning of the review. I'm currently going through the article reviewing the prose and completing some minor copyediting. I should have the remainder of my comments up within the hour. Dana boomer (talk) 16:09, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- And the remainder of the review is finished. Overall, it's a very nice article, with just a few tweaks that need to be made. Please let me know if you have any questions. Dana boomer (talk) 16:54, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Everything looks good, so I'm going to pass the article to GA status. As for the pictures - thanks for removing the one picture and fixing the fair use rationale on the other. My thought would be that it would work to move the image with the Lumia caption up to replace the Li Causi image - this would remove another fair use image that in my opinion doesn't significantly improve the understanding of the reader. However, this isn't something I'm going to argue about, or that will impede the article's GA promotion. Very nice work, and thanks for the prompt response. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Dana boomer (talk) 19:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
