Untitled[edit]

One of the takes of the slow, melodic version (which includes a celeste) HAS been released....by accident. Certain early copies of the "Positively 4th Street" single released in the LA area had this early recording of "....Window" instead of the intended song.Sojambi Pinola (talk) 19:23, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ochs wrong song![edit]

"The most famous story concerning Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan deals with Ochs criticizing one of Dylan's songs and Dylan tossing Ochs out of a limousine, but the details have become muddied over time.

One of the more common explanations pegs the song in question as "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?" See, for example, Wikipedia's summary:

   Dylan played the song to Phil Ochs as the two were riding in a limousine. When Ochs expressed a lukewarm feeling about the piece, Dylan kicked him out of the limousine, yelling "You're not a folk singer. You're a journalist."

The song, in fact, was not played in the car, and it was in fact another song recorded at the same session in 1965: "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)." This was explained by Ochs to Rolling Stone and to author Marc Eliot (who included the anecdote in his revised outro to Death of a Rebel). Early version released in error as "Positively 4th Street"[edit]

I'm surprised that this article makes only a very vague late reference to the original release of the song, the melodic glockenspiel version that came out on a single labeled "Positively 4th Street" in the LA area in mid 1965. Was this scrubbed from the article, and if so, why? It's an important part of the song's history. Sojambi Pinola (talk) 16:29, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
