The name of the rivalry

[edit]

The name of the rivalry is mostly used by non-montreal media, as the 401 is not the highway's name in Montreal, is there a more approriate name for this rivalry?

I do not believe that a single blog post is enough to change the name of the derby. While the new title may be more appropriate, if it is not the common name, it will have to be moved back. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:41, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Walter per WP:COMMONNAME. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 04:14, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Still 401 Derby here.
Two Solitudes Derby:
OK. So maybe we need to search in French, because the Toronto-based media outlets are insisting on calling it the 401 Derby and no one is weighing-in. There were other sources when I searched for the term, but they are not reliable sources. Google news had an entry but it only contained links to Mount Royal Soccer. 208.81.212.224 (talk) 22:59, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, by common name, it is 401 Derby, which I changed back to yesterday. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 23:12, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Quiz1000: was the editor who moved it. Any comments? 208.81.212.224 (talk) 01:40, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian Classique

[edit]

As of yesterday's game (Aug. 25, 2018) the only site still calling it the 401 Derby is a Toronto FC blog called "Waking the Red". The TSN commentators and websites of MLS, Montreal Impact, Toronto FC, and Sportsnet are all calling it the Canadian Classique. InterMiami (talk) 07:08, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Move should have been discussed

[edit]

Toronto calls it 401 Derby and just recently I heard Canadian Classique for the first time. I wake up to find that the article was move without discussion. That's a problem. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:21, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I'm not so sure about the page move. @InterMiami: it does look like MLS has decided to change what it calls the derby but as per WP:COMMONNAME "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's official name as an article title". Some outlets have, and still refer to it by the old title (ex.). BLAIXX 19:56, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
InterMiami wrote to the talk page above (I moved it down as it was out of place). Most sites seem to be using Canadian Classique now, including MLS, given by several sources in the article lead, with only TFC related pages referring to it as 401 Derby. Canadian Classique seems like it may be the common name now. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:12, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Most sites? https://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/mls/montreal-impact-toronto-fc-rivalry-week-mls-1.4799074 uses neither. The following are are from the past few days.
401 Derby: [1][2][3]
Canadian Classique [[4][5] Multiple Sportsnet links omitted.
The most telling is that MLS uses the term, but the TSN announcers of the Whitecaps game repeatedly called it the 401 Derby and only referred to it as the Canadian Classique during the highlights break between halves. "I guess they're calling it the Canadian Classique now". Clearly not the COMMONNAME yet, but at least the old name redirects here. The move should still have been discussed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:54, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I favour the renaming of article to Canadian Classique, it is more neutral and informative. The 401 Derby is an informal TFC-originating term. It is confusing because highway 401 is an unnecessary, subjective connection. Arguably tedious. I think its current mention in AKA works perfect. Nonc01 (talk) 17:47, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Most appearances?

[edit]

The "most player appearances" section of the infobox has been left blank. Does anyone know who has the most appearances in the rivalry, or if there is even a way to find this out. Seems like it would be a worthy inclusion. TrailBlzr (talk) 17:19, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why are the logos in the infobox the MLS badges they wear on their jersey sleeves as opposed to the actual team logos? RedPatchBoy (talk) 21:39, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The actual team logos are WP:Non-free content. Per the fair use policy, they can only be used on the pages that they are the primary topic of. BLAIXX 01:58, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As Blaixx pointed out, it's a copyright issue. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:37, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Then why not just leave it imageless? I don't quite see the purpose of MLS logos, which would fall under the same stipulation, no? Wouldn't the MLS badge only qualify for the MLS main page? (sorry for lateness, didn't have this on my watch page and forgot I posted it) RedPatchBoy (talk) 13:25, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No reason not to. This was a compromise to an editor who insisted on challenging FUR by adding the logos a few years ago. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:21, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
