[Update from current Canon EF owner, 11/10/06: Please note that, after reading the previous revision of this article, I purchased PX 625A 1.5 volt alkaline batteries for my camera, and this type of battery caused wild fluctuations by the camera's metering needle. As a result, I do not recommend the 1.5 volt alkaline batteries for this camera. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THIS TOPIC ARE WELCOME.]

[Update from another Canon EF owner, 02/16/07: A good source about how to replace mercury cells, look here Mercury-Oxyde Battery Problem]

Mercury batteries should not be replaced with alkalines because their inconstant voltage, you have to use silver oxide or Weincell. Canon EF seems to have a built in voltage reduction system, so you don't need an adapter to reduce 1.5v batteries. I've just bought one so I haven't tested it. A Weincell 1.35v battery can be used instead, but I've read they last from 3 up to 6 months. Who knows more about EF battery issue or information should update the article or post here. --Rullino (talk) 11:20, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
