Wrong USGS coordinates?
[edit]USGS lists very different coordinates for this lighthouse[1]: 40.4401316, -124.4069999. An examination of the map shows no lighthouse at that location. -- Dandv(talk|contribs) 22:44, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- Cape Mendocino Light is an automated beacon at Cape Mendocino, California, located at 40.4401316N, 124.4069999W.[2] The former lighthouse was relocated to Shelter Cove (40°01′20″N 124°04′10″W / 40.02222°N 124.06944°W) near Point Delgada, California in 1998, and the historic Fresnel lens to Ferndale, California (40°35′13.45″N 124°15′53.17″W / 40.5870694°N 124.2647694°W) in 1948. I have changed the coordinates of the actual flashing light back to the place from which the light flashes, and added coordinate links to the park in Shelter Cove where the restored metal light house building stands as well as to the Ferndale location of the lens (currently being disassembled for storage prior to redisplay). Please don't change the coordinates of the active, flashing light to the park in Shelter Cove again as the sailing maps and sailor's handbooks still - quite correctly - show the actual "Cape Mendocino Light" out on that inhospitable bump in the Pacific.
