Name Change[edit]

Capital City Airport recently changed its' name to "Capital Region International Airport", and it has gained "US Port of Entry" status.[1] As the airport has changed its' name, I think the article's name should also be changed, but I don't know how to do that. Can someone who does help me out? Jon Alten (talk) 19:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did it the other day. I had to ask for help, but I got it done. --Criticalthinker (talk) 01:48, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

B-class comments[edit]

Ron, just checking as you requested. I agree with your checklist.

For the contributing editors: From reading the History section, I'm concerned with the amount of airline announcements of flight coverage. I don't think those really pertain to the lasting history of the airport and are non-notable events in the scope of Wikipedia coverage and its requisite summary style. I think that airport revision/expansions, interactions with the civil authorites and local communities, and notable incidents are the types of events that would survive and contribute to the article promotion to the next levels. Consider eliminating the "Recent events" subsection heading and promoting its subordinate headings to preserve the format of grouping history by time periods. Congratulations on progressing the article so far, and good luck and keep editing! --Born2flie (talk) 20:33, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this, though, I'd go even further. The page is getting a bit cluttered. It's very nice to see how far the page has come, but for such a small airport, I think the length and detail is getting a bit ridiculous. --Criticalthinker (talk) 02:36, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

Small portions of the airport are located in Watertown Township, Delta Township, and the city of Lansing.

I'm looking at the link provided, and maybe it's just because I'm not very good at reading the type of maps shown, but I don't see anything showing that it's located in anything other than DeWitt Township. Some help, here. --Criticalthinker (talk) 12:40, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay - pages 279 and 281 of the .pdf are maps of the airport land parcels. Some parcels southwest of runway 6/24 are in Delta Township (the runway protection zone). Some parcels west of runway 10R (and Airport Road) are in Watertown Township. The airport entrance off of Gd River Ave is in Lansing city. Page 283 - the last page before chapter 7 - lists the airport parcels by municipality (along with acquisition date and acreage etc). Most are in DeWitt Twp, there are also parcels listed for Watertown Twp, Delta Twp, and the city of Lansing. When driving along the airport main entrance road, the Lansing City Limit sign and DeWitt Township signs are on airport property (near the railroad tracks, several hundred feet north of Grand River Ave). Hope this helps. Dj1997 (talk) 20:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you're saying, now, though it just seems so weird to list all of them when we're talking literal parcels in these other municipalities instead of acres. --Criticalthinker (talk) 07:24, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point, certainly most of the airport is in DeWitt Twp. From the source, about 218 acres are in Watertown Twp (roughly 10%), 15 acres in Delta Twp, and 39 acres in Lansing city, with the remaining 1,800+ in DeWitt Twp. The Infobox summary only mentions DeWitt Twp. So to be completely accurate I mentioned the other municipalities; I tried to be brief in doing so. The airport is kind of in a unique spot, at the boundary of three counties (and in 4 municipalities). It's like saying that the city of Lansing is in Ingham County - true, but a small portion is in Eaton County (with a few thousand residents). Dj1997 (talk) 18:55, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Largest Markets from Capital Region International Airport"[edit]

The "Largest Markets from Capital Region International Airport" and the chart on top non-stop destinations seem pretty similar to me with the difference only in how they are measured (one's measured over a year, and one is a daily average). Am I correct in that one is about non-stop destinations, and the other one is about final destinations (since the airport has so few non-stop destinations)? --Criticalthinker (talk) 10:06, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, Detroit, Chicago and MSP are the top non-stop destinations. The larger chart (PDEW) refers to final/end destinations (i.e. that's why Detroit Metro is not on the list, due to the proximity few of course would fly from LAN to DTW as the final destination). The non-stop destination list will change soon, flights to LAS, RSW, Montego Bay were added in late December. Dj1997 (talk) 19:31, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is this consistent with other airport pages? It would seem that there should be some kind of standardization so you're not measuring one as a daily average and one as a raw number. --Criticalthinker (talk) 07:25, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, a standardized way of presenting the stats would be ideal. Most airport Wikipages use the Bureau of Transportation Stats website for the non-stop destinations (however the stats there are rounded to the nearest thousand). I was concerned about dividing in to a rounded estimate in order to get PDEW. Likewise, the PDEW data (that's the way the stats were presented in the Small Community Air Service Proposal) are rounded to the nearest tenth - would multiplying these averages provides an accurate passenger count? In other words, I was concerned about taking averages/estimates and multiplying/dividing out in order to get like measurements (both charts using total passengers or both PDEW). I noticed that the Port Columbus Airport website uses both PDEW and total passengers in their usage charts. That may be possible here. I'll keep looking for more detailed (less rounded) passenger stats. I appreciate any ideas/suggestions. Dj1997 (talk) 19:16, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
