Regiment?[edit]

The article states that he's in one of the Cambridgeshire regiments. Can't we tell which one by the cap badge? To my eyes the cap badge appears to show a castle, like that on the badge of the KOSB.

Tone[edit]

These words from someone who, over the space of four series spanning several centuries, had become known to the public as an egotistical, self-centered, cynical, blunt, sly, thieving, corrupt, villainous, yet curiously likable character, went a long way to underline the serious, sobering mood of this episode. In these last few moments of this momentous sitcom all the clever put-downs, the witty one-liners, the slapstick and the turnip jokes, were pushed aside and the viewers realised that this was no longer a comedy but a harsh, cruel and grim statement of fact.

This is poor encyclopedia tone and original research, which needs to be edited out at some point. SGGH speak! 15:24, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KIA[edit]

The final episode of 'Blackadder Goes Forth' leave open the possibility Captain Blackadder survived the charge. Therefore his demise may not have been in 1917. GoodDay (talk) 21:20, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Captain Blackadder, MC?[edit]

What's the source for Captain Blackadder having been awarded the Military Cross? I think the only medal ribbons he wears are the Queen's South Africa Medal, the King's South Africa Medal and the 1914 (or 1914-15) Star. Opera hat (talk) 11:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a picture. Note that George and (bizarrely) Darling are wearing the MC ribbon! Opera hat (talk) 11:33, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
...and it looks like these military heroes have both bagged a Croix de Guerre too: vide. Opera hat (talk) 11:41, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
While on the subject, as far as I can make out Melchett wears: (first row) the Victoria Cross, the Order of the Bath (KCB), the Distinguished Service Order, the South Africa Medal (?), the Afghanistan Medal; (second row) the East and West Africa Medal, the Egypt Medal, the Khedive's Star, the India Medal; (third row) the King's South Africa Medal, the Queen's South Africa Medal, the India General Service Medal and the 1914 Star. Opera hat (talk) 12:01, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's particularly bizarre that Darling should have the MC. Just because he's an ADC now doesn't mean he always was. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was more his timorous character than his previous service that I thought would make the award surprising. I've just watched Private Plane and I think Lord Flashheart is wearing the Victoria Cross, the Royal Victorian Order, the Order of the Bath, the Order of St Michael and St George, the Order of the British Empire (an anachronism), the Military Cross, the Africa General Service Medal, the India General Service Medal, the 1914 Star, the Legion of Honour and another foreign ribbon, possibly the Croix de Guerre again. Opera hat (talk) 02:43, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
...and in General Hospital Brigadier Sir Bernard Proudfoot-Smith is wearing the Distinguished Service Order, the (anachronistic) Order of the British Empire, the Military Cross, the Queen's South Africa Medal, the King's South Africa Medal, the India Medal, the India General Service Medal, the 1914 Star, and what looks like two beige ribbons each with a wide central red stripe and two dark edge stripes. He is also wearing the post-1922 badges of a Colonel on the Staff (crown and three pips) and not the pre-1922 badges of a Brigadier-General (crossed sword and baton). The appointment of Brigadier itself was not established until 1928. Opera hat (talk) 23:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date?[edit]

where did that birth date come from? that would have made blackadder 46 in 1917. awfully old for a captain, particularly in war time. not to mention the fact that atkinson was 35 in 1990.Toyokuni3 (talk) 04:21, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The episode Goodbyeeee... mentions that Blackadder was serving as early as 1892, when he saved Douglas Haig's life at the Battle of Mboto Gorge. I don't know where the date of 1888 given in the article comes from. Opera hat (talk) 13:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
