Notability

[edit]

Just curious, if this article does not fit WP:NOTABLE, wouldn't other articles surrounding crashes (with less coverage and/or casualties) also not fit notability standards either? Why are they not being treated as such? Including: 2023 Brownsville crash, 2022 Galicia bus crash, 2022 West Bank bus crash, 2021 Imperial County car crash, Sfântu Gheorghe minibus accident, 2019 Lakewood semi-truck crash, just to name a few. Those articles might need to be deleted or merged into larger topic lists as well. Wikipedia has a lot of "newscruft" where there are articles about random news stories that aren't historically significant. An article about an event needs prolonged coverage after the story has stopped developing (usually months or years later), or it needs to meet the other criteria listed at WP:EVENTCRIT (which usually requires the event to affect entire populations in some way). I would argue that it has received international media attention -- most routine vehicular accidents don't reach that point -- and is eerily similar to the circumstances surrounding the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. TheSandDoctor Talk 05:03, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Trimmed tag as there is extensive international coverage of the topic in question in major newspapers. The second criteria is "Events are also very likely to be notable if they have widespread (national or international) impact and were very widely covered in diverse sources" Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:34, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Humboldt fulfilled EVENTCRIT through its criminal charges, not the event itself. This still fails NEVENTS and I'll nominate it for deletion again after it's off the main page (per Schwede66's closure). EvergreenFir (talk) 14:41, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I hate to break it to you Evergreen but this event does appear to meet all notability requirements. You can nominate it as often as you want to but there is enough significant and sustained national and international coverage for this event to refute any future nominations. Name change

[edit]

I think the name Carberry bus crash would be better suited following suit of similar articles like the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Swift Current Broncos bus crash, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, bus crash, 2016 Chattanooga school bus crash. The title does not mention the bus, which was the vehicle were all of the fatalities came from. Additionally this is also how it is referenced in the news [1][2][3][4]. I think this is a pretty uncontroversial change but I thought that I would just put my reasoning here before I try to do it. Qwexcxewq (talk) 22:40, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
