Carl Barat isn't bisexual, so why is there a link to "Bisexual musicians" at the bottom of his page?

-- It's most definitely an unsubstantiated rumour more commonly perpetuated by Libertines fans (and usually women).

He is very probably bisexual but theres no actual confirmation. Reubensutton 10:51, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pete is also most likely bisexual as well. It's quite likely that their friendship has been more than platonic at some stage, but this is merely rumour. --MartinUK 10:49, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that's just silly. Why on Earth would you say it's "most likely" that they're bisexual? There's zero evidence for that. These rumours only ever come from distant fans with no connection to the band. It's pure nonsense, and I say that because the tabloids, who have shown no restraint in publishing false stories about Peter, would have proved it if there were even a kernel of truth. It would have been a major front-page story in the Moss era, and Peter is pretty much incapable of hiding anything. No homosexual encounter with him could have stayed hidden with tabloid cash on offer and the media feeding-frenzy around him for so long.
I honestly think this is just psychological projection from his legions of male fans, struggling to understand the confusing feelings they get from reading, on the forums , the lustful adoration of female fans for the band. OneVeryBadMan 16:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carl or Carlos

[edit]

An unregistered user (who did some vandalism on Gary Powell's page) recently changed the name on this page to 'Carlos'. Is this just rubbish too, or is it his actual name? A search in google reveals some pages that refer to him as 'Carlos'; but none explaining whether it is his actual name Robdurbar 08:34, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Carlos is just a nickname. His given name is officially Carl. 155.212.134.207 19:41, 21 November 2005 (UTC) Sarah[reply]

His name was Carl throughout his school years at Testbourne...He didn't have a circumflex over the 'a' in his surname then either Devious Viper 19:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the old pic??

This is also my understanding, that his given name is Carl, and that Carlos is a nickname. OneVeryBadMan 14:27, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, a few vandles keep insisting on changing his name - its hard to keep track of it! Robdurbar 16:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If a source is needed, IMDB confirms his birthname as Carl, listing Carlos as his nickname. It also includes a circumflex. [1] OneVeryBadMan 16:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in The Libertines: Bound Together (by Anthony Thornton and Roger Sargent) it says "The definitve story of Peter Doherty and Carl Barât [...]". Considered that it's Doherty's real name Peter (instead of the nick name Pete) one can assume that Carl Barât is right as well. -- dreadlady 17:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone's changed it to Carlos again, which is definitely wrong. I'm also pretty sure the circumflex is a flourish he added and is no longer using, but as he's known better with the circumflex, it probably doesn't need to be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.208.196.163 (talk) 11:16, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

circumflex

[edit]

Does his name definitely have a circumflex accent, and does that affect the pronunciation? Where is the surname from originally? 143.252.80.110 15:34, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--yes, it does really have the circumflex but it's not really there for pronunciation, the name's French but he's English

Yup; I've moved the page to its proper title (i.e. with the circumflex). --Robdurbar 18:11, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He didn't have a circumflex while he lived in Whitchurch, nor was it used on his school records.

I just realised that someone renamed article to Barât. That was quite rash, wasn't it. I'm 90% sure that his name is spelled without a circumflex. If you have a look at the cover of Bound Together, it says Carl Barat. I guess it rather is some artistical flourish he added to his name (it's the same with (his nick name) Carlos instead of Carl). So, if I don't get a reply withing a week say I'll change it all back to Barat. -- dreadlady 16:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why has someone else added the circumflex back? Is it because he used it on his book and album? I don't mind if people think that makes it "official", but he was born "Barat" so that at least needs to be changed (it's easy enough to look up his birth records to prove that if you don't believe me). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.123.89.86 (talk) 21:23, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture?

[edit]

Don't suppose anybody fancies putting a picture up to they?

A move?

[edit]

Wouldn't the "Dirty Pretty Things" section come under "Post-Libertines"?He did form the band after splitting with The Libertines.(ColaRules 10:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC))[reply]

"poor Dirty Pretty Things"?

[edit]

On 3 February at about 2200 hours someone added an extra sentence to the first paragraph of the Post-Libertines section. It states that he was able to move on to working on his new band "the poor Dirty Pretty Things." What's the "poor" for? Is that someone trying to be cute? --Cardinalsmurf (talk) 21:38, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
