REALLY late publication

Someone should check the dates of Bellman's "Selected works". He lived in the 1700s and his works were apparently not published till the 1900s. If he's so influential in Sweden, his stuff should have been published in his lifetime. Tariswerewolf 11:58, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Composer?

Was Bellman really a composer? Didn't he simply steal his tunes from the musical theatre of his day? Of which also some of his lyrics are parodies?

It should also be mentioned that the modern view of Bellman as a "poet" was established after his death. To his contemporaries he was an entertainer – alternatively a potential poet who wasted his talent on cheap jokes.

Agreed on that last bit, but not all his work can be viewed as "appropriation". "Glimmande nymf" and "Märk hur vår skugga" are amazing melodies not heard anywhere else. MURGH ^disc. 15:12, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

English first

Not sure we're moving in the right direction by naming Bellman's works in Swedish first, then putting the English bluelinks in parentheses afterwards (surely that's not right) - compare Johann Wolfgang von Goethe where Sorrows of Young Werther is simply given as the title of a book, with no mention of the fact that the original title was different. This is the English Wikipedia after all.

Suggest there are two sensible alternatives here: a) as in Goethe, just use the English bluelinks without qualification (i.e. no Swedish except footnotes/bibliography); or b) English first, then (Swedish). Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:01, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Anno 1790

Why is the television series Anno 1790 mention? There are no references to Bellman in that series.
