[edit]Nice new article! Thought about suggesting this at DYK? — mark ✎ 21:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- I had a similar thought and took the liberty of suggesting it there. Hope you don't mind. - BanyanTree 21:51, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Arthur C. Clarke connection?
[edit]Looking at today's DYK, I am troubled to see Carlos Cardoso mentioned as a murder victim. A person of that name was quite active in the Arthur C. Clarke Internet Fan Club (see Web Archive) some years ago, and I considered him a friend. Unfortunately he has not been heard from there for several years though the group still exists, and I am concerned that he is may be the same person. I am not even certain if "Carlos Cardoso" is an extremely common Portuguese name, but our friend might well have been a journalist, and was certainly a strong personality. The ACCIFC was founded by Reinaldo A. C. Bianchi in Sao Paolo Brazil in 1995 when Bianchi was a graduate student, though he no longer actively maintains it. I think there is an archive of old posts, where more information may still be preserved. I plan to inquire on that list if any of the old-time members have any knowledge about the connection, but I thought it might be worthwhile to ask here as well. It is unlikely that this will have any effect on the article here either way, but I would appreciate a note on my talk page if anyone can tell me more. Thanks. - There appears to be a Carlos Cardoso active in Clarke topics well after the 2000 death of the Mozambican journalist. - BanyanTree 23:56, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Much relieved. Wwheaton (talk) 07:26, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
you're relieved that the man who was murdered was a corruption-fighting journalist rather than a member of a science fiction fan club you only know through the internet? 24.80.141.3 (talk) 07:55, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
bizarre racist language
[edit]I have removed the line "They bore two children together, both are whites of Nordic race." from the "Mozambican independance" section. It seems bizarre that the contributer felt the need to assure us that the children were northern european, especially through the use of such strange language. Additionally, the statement isn't accurate, because even if the writer of that line were justified in its use, all of the racist psuedo-science that racial subdivision is based on would not consider someone of portugese descent to be "nordic"[1].TheCimmerian (talk) 08:13, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
