Bio is gibberish and does not show knowledge of his vita[edit]

Whoever write the bio portion of this page did not know how to translate the list of assignments at the bottom of it into English. General Carter Ham testified before the Congress that he did not receive an order to initiate any means of defense on the Benghazi consulate. (His rank and position make no one except POTUS and SecDef above him.) Now, the blog world is swirling with remarks that he got fired on the eighteenth of this month.

Although Wikipedia doesn't trust Fox News (for "some reason"), they have a video interviewing Representative Jason Chaffetz and his reference to committee testimonies by the Four Star General.


We need to update this section with more details regarding the Benghazi terror attacks and his role in never receiving an order to defend. You guys are neutral.

General was arrested by his second in command as soon as he gave the order to proceed with combat support of the Ambassador and his staff that were under attack on September 11, 2012.

The rumor mill on that started by unsubstantiated speculation based on very loose timing. The Chairman of the JCS has issued a statement on the subject. The idea that a 4-Star Combatant Commander would be relieved of his command over that a la Crimson Tide is bogus, more so without any follow up comment. After retirement[edit]

Retired General Ham is currently serving on the RSP's subcommittee on the "Role of the commander"."Subcommittees". Response Systems to Adult Sexual Assault Crimes Panel (RSP), United States Department of Defense. 7 November 2013.. I don't know whether this is important enough to be in the article or not. Pay grades[edit]

Presently the chart for his officer service shows O-1E, O-2E & O-3E. The E is for enlisted service, which Ham had 2 years. But to get the E jump in pay at the O-1 through O-3 levels, the officer needs 4 years of enlisted service. With this in mind his pay grade designations should be simple O-1. Military Career Section Needs Some Attention[edit]

These two paragraphs appear somewhat disjointed and/or unclear. However, I'm unable to really do the research to clarify the order of events. For example, the last sentence in the first paragraph begins with, "During his time in Afghanistan...", but there's nothing prior that speaks to an Afghanistan deployment. Very confusing.

"Ham graduated from the Air War College in 1997 then returned to Germany, where he served as Operations Officer (G-3), then Chief of Staff, 1st Infantry Division. From 1999 to 2001 he commanded the 29th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, then served as Deputy Director for Resources and Analysis (J-8) for United States Central Command at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida and in Doha, Qatar, during which time he was selected for promotion to brigadier general. Ham was assigned as the deputy commanding general for training and readiness, I Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington in August 2003. In January 2004, he assumed command of Multinational Brigade (Task Force Olympia) – North in Mosul, Iraq serving there until February 2005. During his time in Afghanistan, Ham suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, which was caused by his attending the aftermath of a deadly suicide bombing at a mess hall. He later sought treatment for his condition and publicly encouraged other soldiers to do the same.[6]

Returning from Iraq, Ham served as the deputy director for regional operations, J-3, on The Joint Staff. Ham assumed command of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, in August 2006 and served as the commanding general until July 2007, returning to The Joint Staff as director for operations, J-3. On August 28, 2008, Ham became the 34th COMMANDER of the United States Army Europe headquartered at Campbell Barracks, Heidelberg, Germany. In 2010, Ham served as co-chair for the comprehensive review of issues associated with the repeal of the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.[7]" Toby Beaman (talk) 19:17, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
