The first line is not clear: "Casting is a manufacturing process using a cast.". Since a "cast" is most commonly considered a group of actors who are in one production, play, movie, etc. this is confusing. In this sentence 'cast' is noun. It can also be used as a verb for this context such as the director cast the actors.

In a foundry, the term is rarely is ever used in this way. The term 'casting' as a noun and not as the progressive form of the verb in the paragraph above. If used it is sometimes used as a verb such as "we will cast the part today" or may be a noun such as "The part was made from the first 'cast' of the day".
