Certic/Ceretic[edit]

If the text calls him Certic why does this article call him Ceretic...? Paul S (talk) 18:59, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have I missed something here? Precisely which text calls him "Certic"? The Latin text of the Annales Cambriae spells his name as Ceretic; in Welsh tradition he is known as Ceredig (i.e. 'Ceretic'; soft mutation t=d, c=g). I've never seen him called Certic. Sorry, having checked the Latin text of Nennius I see that 'he' has Certic; agree there could be a case for a) a 'typo' by the author of the Historia or b) they are in fact two seperate persons. Too late to go into that tonight. Most scholars seem to agree on the tentative identification of Ceretic/Certic with Ceredig ap Gwallog, however. For much of sub-Roman history the line between history and tradition is tenuous. Enaidmawr (talk) 23:03, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
