Possible/likely copyvio

[edit]

The present article (which it seems was created in a single text dump by an anon user) looks to me to be a likely copyvio - phrases such as "The mask on the bottom right contains hieroglyphics for yax" (when there is no corresponding img) seem a dead giveaway. I'm presently unable to locate the original source, however. Anyone else agree?--cjllw | TALK 00:50, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I looks like a text dump to me too. However in fairness, the phrase "the mask on the bottom right" can refer the bottom right side of the temple, rather than the location of a missing illustration. I left a message on the user talk page, though they seem not to have been active since November. I think at least a full rewrite of the article would be prudent. -- Infrogmation 01:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

a-ha, I had completely overlooked that possible interpretation, on re-reading, you may well be right. Agreed that a rewrite is in order in any case.--cjllw | TALK 07:01, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I"ve revised this text sufficiently enough, I think, to remove the concern about copyvio. I reworded the previous text while incorporating info from Sharer (1994). -- Oaxaca dan 19:09, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well done dan - that should do very nicely indeed, many thanks! Cheers, --cjllw | TALK 02:49, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed additions

[edit]

I'm currently in the process of researching Cerros for Wikiproject Mesoamerica (which is also a part of the Hoopes class assigment). I'm hoping to add a substantial amount of information that I've gathered from a variety of sources (legitimate scholarly journals) and maybe some images if I can secure the permission of those that hold the copyright. Hi there Greg, and welcome to wikipedia, and WP:MESO in particular. An expansion to this article on a significant site would be fantastic.
It would also be great to have some usable images, which would need to be released under one of the compatible free-use licenses that wikipedia recognises. I'd recommend checking out our image use policy first, and also a review of the types of image licenses that can be used (some have different kinds of restrictions). If requesting the re-use of someone else's pic or artwork (drawing of a motif or inscription, say) that is in copyright, the WP:COPYREQ page gives some steps to follow, as it's important to point out to the img creator the ramifications of such a decision. Our general copyrights policy may be read here. Cheers, --cjllw ʘ TALK 00:28, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
